Transmission never really worked right. This was my second Odyssey. Also had a 2000 model, but sold it at 35,000 miles. Lady who bought it had some trouble with it, but I do not know the extent of it. I bought the 2002 model mainly to get the leather seat covers. Bad decision. I just bought a new Toyota Sienna. Wonderful van. No problems whatsoever.

I have a 2002 Honda Odyssey the second gear start slip, and rev up before shifting to 3rd, mechanic put the car on a computer it came with these codes P1456, P0740, P0730. I went to the local Honda dealer they want to replace the transmission for $4290.00. I read about Honda has a recall on the second gear inspection, are they supposed to replace the transmission? If not is there a type of class action suit that i can join.

2002 Odyssey original owner. For approx 1 month van bucks at highway speeds between 50-60mph. Finally brought to Honda as I have read this is a common problem with Odyssey. They told me will need new transmission approx 4k. All they offered to do was send a good will request to Honda, which I imagine they will refuse. Service said that the most she's seen Honda pay for was 25 pct in her 16 yrs there. BS. She said Honda had extended the coverage to 7 years. Well, I had already bought a 7 yr extended warranty. If they don't provide more relief, I'll get rid of this and will be the last Honda I buy after happily owning 3 others before this one. Paid top dollar and expected better than this. I get much better customer service at Toyota. I will file complaint letters to try to get it replaced and just pay labor. At least it's worth it. Honda should stand behind their products when there is a well known and well documented problem.
Update from Mar 17, 2011: Honda USA has offered to split the total repair costs (parts, labor, fees, taxes) which would cost me still $3200. They need to replace the ECM/PCM if they put in a new transmission. Today I sent a reply letter express mail requesting they pay for all parts and fees, and I will pay for the labor plus tax on labor. The transmission is defective, plus I already replaced a defective ECM/PCM in Oct10 for $1600. I will update again when I get reply to my letter.
Update from Mar 24, 2011: Honda USA called to report they received my letter. Unfortunately, their best offer is the 50percent sharing which would cost me $3.2k. That offer stands for 30 days. I reiterated all my reasons why they should not charge for parts, but they would not budge, not even when I said that would be the last Honda I ever owned. As one final try, I will try sending my complaint to Honda Auto HQ in Japan, but am doubtful of any other ruling. Still, it's worth a try. If Honda Japan says no, that's the end of the line for this complaint.

The van shudders when shifting at low speeds (20-25 MPH), especially when on a slight incline without applying much pressure to the gas pedal. I've had it into the dealer several times, all to no avail. The best they can come up with is that it's shifting into the next higher gear too soon. It shakes the entire van and is quite annoying.

I've read some of the comments on the transmission issues. There is a recall from Honda on this. How can you make the dealership honor this recall? It seems no one should be paying for this seeing that the result could cause a crash when locking up. Look up re-calls. If they are taking money from you they are also probably filling for the re-call and getting paid from Honda as well. These dealerships are such scammers.

I own a 2002 Honda Odyssey and have had hesitation shifting form 2nd to 3rd for about 8 months (8500km) and just recently have had a chk engine light and traction control lights on had it scanned at shop and have found out that it was going to cost me over 3k to rebuild the trains. Also found out that it is a reoccurring problem. I haven't got it repaired yet and am wondering if anyone out there have found any assistance from Honda or a permanent fix to this problem (I have no warr.)

My 2002 Honda Odyssey had its original transmission replaced at 60,000 miles or so. The replacement has shifted roughly ever since. It will shake the van when upshifting at slow speeds (especially in traffic jams). I have taken it to dealer several times and they say they cannot duplicate issue. I am nearing the end of my extended warranty and I want this fixed!!
I have given it to the dealership again and told them this time to keep it until they find the problem.

My 2002 Honda Odyssey had a transmission problem since March 2014.. I tool the car for repair to Grossoniger Honda at Western Avenue in Illinois. They do have the complete record of my vehicle as to all the services done to date per their recommendation. After several repairs to the transmission, they still have not fixed it properly.. at last they have now recommended to replace the transmission at a cost of $4850.00. Which is ridiculous... T
he transmission does not wear and tear due to the fact that the car is having a mileage of 145000 in it. The Honda Company must be able to fix my car at no cost to the owner since it is related to the transmission engine. or else I need all the money refunded back to me for all the work done on the Transmission at Grossinger Honda,6600 N. Western Ave. Chicago, IL 60645
You can very well have my authorization to pull all their records based on the work completed at Grossinger honda.
I need to fix the transmission and I do not have such a huge amount to replace it now.. Since I owned your vehicle for the last 12 years, the Honda company is obligated to repair the transmission at no cost to the owner.
Please give me call at the earliest to find a solution to this..you can reach me through email at koshygeorge3@gmail.com or on my cell at 224-489-8166.
I am expecting a prompt reply to this and a solution to fix the transmission.
