I did not expect this to happen at only 85,000 miles. I had the car serviced before our vacation. The Honda dealer first fixed our air bag problem, and we also had to repair our back lift door. Then they did an inspection, and found out our engine mounts needed to be replaced, and then they also replaced our timing belt. They never said anything about our transmission during their inspection. I also replaced 2 new tires and back breaks at a different auto shop. So, 2.500.00 dollars later, we were ready for our vacation. We were driving up the grapevine on I-5, and as we came down towards Bakersfield, my RPM's started revving up to 4-6 while I was only going 60mph. I pulled over, let the engine cool, and then got back on the freeway. A few miles later, it started to do it again. And this time, I could smell smoke. We were grateful to be near a Honda dealer, so I drove it over to them, and 4 hours later, they said our transmission FAILED. The total cost on this repair, 4,100.00. So here we are almost 7,000.00 into this vehicle and only 85,000 miles. This should not have happened. I went online after our vacation, and found out all these owners with other 02 Odysseys where having problems with there transmissions as well. And I never received a recall notice about the problem from Honda. How do I get compensated for this. This should not happen to Honda's

Car intermittently goes into sudden acceleration after driving for about 40 mins after it is hot. It also seems to happen when the outside temperature is hot. When this happens the engine revs up very high and the rpms go wild --but, worst of all I cannot stop the car and I am very afraid of rear-ending another car, or hitting a pedestrian. This happened a year ago and they did fix it; however, but since I put in a new transmission 10 months it has started up again. However, Honda can not find out what the problem is. I am wondering if it is the transmission???

I drove on a 40mph street. Prepared to stop on a red light. I released my foot from the accelerating pedal and stepped on the brake pedal. After that, about 5 seconds, the car suddenly accelerated by itself about 1.5 second. Fortunately, I still stepped on the brake very hard. The car moved forward about 2 feet. Luckily, I almost hit a car in front of me. I called a local honda dealer asking a service man to see if he know any recall on this car. He said "none".

I don't know what to do. I want to let HONDA company know about this deadly problem. Hopefully, AutoBeef could pass this message to the HONDA compay.

this as happened once before and the cost was over $1300 to repair the damage done. I reported the problem to the dealer and he reported that they found no problems. It happened while my wife was stopped at an inclined driveway and while she had her foot on the brakes the van accelerated and caused damage to garage door and auto in the garage. The first instance also was similar, she backed out of the driveway and the car accelerated, she stopped it by putting on the brakes. In putting it into reverse it also accelerated and caused significant damage. It was reported to the dealer but they stated they found no defect. The police report shows skid marks on the street to show the brakes were on at the time.
