ALL THE KEYS TO THE VEHICLE WILL NOT WORK IN THE IGNITION. IT SUDDENLY HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. YOU HAVE TO JIGGLE THE KEY FOREVER TO GET IT TO WORK, A MINIMUM OF FIVE MINUTES AND SOMETIMES TAKES MORE THAN HALF AN HOUR. ONCE YOU GET IT TO TURN, DON'T TAKE THE KEY OUT OR YOU WILL HAVE TO START THE PROCESS OVER AGAIN. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY HAVE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WITH THE OLDER MODELS. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALLS (ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP) AND IT WOULD COST ABOUT FIVE HUNDRED TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER THAT THE KEY GOES INTO. WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY, SO WE HAVE CHOSEN TO LEAVE THE VALET KEY IN THE IGNITION AT ALL TIMES. IF WE DO THAT, WE HAVE NO TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR. JUST DON'T FORGET AND PULL OUT THE KEY, OR YOU'RE SCREWED! THIS SHOULD NOT BE SOMETHING WE AS THE CONSUMER SHOULD PAY FOR. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE WITH ANY MAKE OF CAR HAVE THIS ISSUE. IT'S RIDICULOUS! OH AND IF MY CAR GETS STOLEN, I WON'T BE COVERED BECAUSE I HAVE TO LEAVE MY KEY IN THE IGNITION.

I had a problem with the key sticking (on occasion) for several months and then finally, a few days ago, it would no longer start. I got online and looked up all kinds of info on how to fix it. We found some helpful info on youtube for removing the ignition.

Heres how to fix it for about $20.00...

Go to Youtube, lookup videos on removing ignitions in the honda accord and other honda models. (I know we're fixing the odyssey but they're all the same)

Remove the ignition

Take to a local locksmith along with your key

10 minutes or less of waiting at the locksmith + $20.00 (Some places quoted us at $40.00 but we called around)

Reinstall ignition

Problem Solved!!!

OTHER OPTIONS

If possible take car to locksmith or have locksmith come out to your vehicle. This will cost you much more. From what I've read anywhere from $100 to $200.00

Take to dealer and pay $500.00 for a completely new ignition which is not necessary and will also require you to carry around 2 sets of keys. One for the new ignition and your old key for unlocking your door.

Hondas have a problem with their ignition keys. This happens on lots of Honda models, like the Pilot, Accura, and Odyssey. The pins (tumblers) in the locks get worn out easily. They symptom is that you can insert the key, but you cannot turn it. A good clue is that all your ignition keys cannot turn (if it is just one key: they key may be worn out). This happens on lots of Honda models, often between 60,000 and 110,000 miles. Mine happened at 7 years old, 105,000 miles. The dealer, usually, will offer to replace the entire ignition lock, for around $500 ... but this gives you a new key which does not match your door locks, so you have to carry around 2 sets of keys. What I did was go to a locksmith, who charged me $100 to put new pins (tumblers) into the ignition. It probably would have been around $200 if he had to come to my house. Bottom line: don't take it to the dealer: go to a locksmith (who specializes in automobiles) instead.

Key goes in (sometimes). Key doesn't turn (ever). This is a royal bitch and I know my sister-in-law's CRV has the same issue to a lesser extent, and I see on this site that many Honda Pilot's suffer this as well. Honda wants $700 for the PART!! - which I can only assume will require replacement again in a few years. This has nothing to do with mileage, rather how often you turn your vehicle on. I've had a local mechanic bypass the switch so I now start my car with a scewdriver, which I'd really like to use on one of the useless suits at the arrogant and annoying dealership. This is a blatant recall item which Honda is unwilling to owe up to. Honda? YOU SUCK!
