On Sunday, January 17, I was driving down the road and heard a pop from under the hood. Immediately, I lost all steering in my vehicle, going 40mph on a wet road. I slid and spun, finally coming to a stop facing the wrong direction. After getting my car to the side of the road, I saw metal disc lying by the curb. It turned out to be the metal ring from the harmonic balancer. It, quite literally, fell out of the car. As it was a Sunday night, I had to have the vehicle towed to the nearest place that was open. Apparently, the rubber or whatever holds the part's two pieces together, had completely disintegrated, resulting in it falling out of the vehicle. Called Honda bright and early Monday morning and they gave me crap for not taking it to them first. After getting the car back from the repair shop, I drove it directly to Honda and handed them the faulty part. They said they'd never seen it before and MIGHT get me a refund on repair costs. This is a DANGEROUS problem. I've also had a problem, like others, with the power steering and I'm wondering if this is related.

I was traveling with my 2 children through a local park that has 3 speed tables in it. Just after I crossed the 3rd speed table I heard a clunk, and lost the power steering and the check charging system light came on. I was not in a good place to stop so I had to continue driving. The clunking continued for a little longer and when it stopped I knew that something had fell off the van. I saw it in the rear view mirror and made note of the location. I returned shortly to get the piece that fell off and found that it was a metal piece that held a belt. I had no idea what it was for. I was able to get it to a small auto shop and they were able to repair it that same day.
I am the second owner of this van and I feel that I have taken good care of it as this is what I use to take my children around in and need it to be safe. I would like to know why nothing was said to me about any wear when I had the belts replaced not long ago. Honda needs to be aware of this issue and the danger it causes.
