loud whinning noise when accelerating does it in gear only

I thought I was purchasing a relatively good vehicle. Was a good one until about 2 yrs ago. Problems started. This one is only the latest one. Needless to say I won't buy another Honda. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is causing the noise in my van, and how to fix it? We think it might be transmission not sure,
