2006 Honda Odyssey. Consumer states problem with rack and pinion leakage. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to have a recall rectified regarding the steering pump. However, as time went by, he began having problems with the steering while making turns. The consumer believed the leaking rack and pinion was related to the steering pump as they were integrated.

2006 Honda Odyssey. Consumer writes in regards to defective part in rear motor mounts the consumer stated Honda was aware of the problem. Instead of correcting the problem they were passing the cost to the consumer. The consumer stated he started complaining about the vibration problem in July 2007. Despiteseveral trips to the dealership, without fully getting the problem resolved the rear motor mounts were never looked at until the van was out of warranty. The consumer was then informed it would cost $1000 to repair a problem that Honda was well aware of. The consumer also stated he was charged $26 to un-twist the passenger side seat belt. The dealer stated seat belt don't twist by themselves. Two weeks later, after limited use of the set belt, it twisted again. The power steering pump was replaced. Updated 10/04/11

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated as he was driving approx. 10 to 15 mph, he could turn the steering wheel but he had to force it to turn. No warning light came on and there was a noise when turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was told to replace the steering pump and the reservoir which will cost $800 for the repairs. The contact told the dealer he was not willing to pay that expense. The manufacturer was called at least three times but stated the mileage was over the warranty and there is no recall for the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.

After a 45 min drive we began to hear a jingling whining sound. Took the van to the dealership the next morning and the noise was gone. I was told that with no noise they couldn't find the problem. After a week I took it in and said that there was a problem with my van and they needed to keep it until they located the cause of the noise. I was informed after a few hours that my power steering pump needed to be replaced to the tune of $600. After some discussion they agreed that they had been having complaints/problems with the power steering pumps and they would be willing to pay for the parts if I would pay for the labor. I have been told that this is huge danger because the power steering could completely fail at high speeds causing complete loss of control.

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle made a groaning sound when making a turn. The noise typically occurred after the vehicle reached speeds of 40 mph and above. She took the vehicle to the dealer for repair and was told that there were reports of failure with the power steering pumps for that type of vehicle. The vehicle was repaired and the pump was replaced under warranty. After the repair was made, the vehicle completely lost power steering ability and made it impossible for the contact to steer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the power steering pump was replaced again. The current mileage is 5,000 and failure mileage was 4,000. I purchased my 2006 Honda Odyssey in the spring of 2006, and the power steering pump makes an annoying whining noise. I have taken it to Honda dealers twice (once in NY & once in fla), and have been told that there is nothing wrong with the pump; that a "minor humming noise is normal". the technician said only that if enough customers complained, a service bulletin would be issued. So I've received no satisfaction or solution to the problem. The whining continues, and I'm supposed to accept it!

My 2006 Odyssey has been in the shop 3 times for this complaint. The power steering pump makes a very bad whining noise when the temps are cold. I would say below 50 degrees. When warm weather approaches, you do not hear it. It is very embarrassing to me. The van was purchased brand new in November 2006 with only 4 miles on it. I started having trouble about a month after it was purchased and it was taken back to the dealer where I purchased it which is an hour and a half drive from where I live and the service department claimed they could not duplicate the problem. I finally got tired of taking it back and forth putting additional mileage on my van that shouldn't be and just said I would deal with it. Warm weather came and I didn't hear it anymore. Well then comes cold weather and I starting hearing it again so this time I contacted american Honda and the director for service and he met me half way and he heard the whining noise and stated this is a known problem for Honda and they are not sure how to fix the problem. He stated they had put 6 new power steering pumps on another Odyssey and could not fix the problem. Well they replaced my power steering pump and about a month later it started making the noise yet again. I contacted the service director again and he said he would note it and I could get it fixed when I wanted to so I have now taken my van back to the shop to get it fixed again. I will be writing a certified letter to Honda and will file the lemon law if need be. I have 3 kids and I really need my van and this has been the most unpleasant experience for me and my family. I bought a Honda due to the reviews and ratings but I will think long and hard about it the next time.

Engine started making a whining noise, mostly when turns were taken. I waited awhile until it just seemed to be getting louder, then continuous. The repair was done under warranty, however since they said that few cars are getting beyond 36,000 miles without needing a new one, when will this have to be replaced again?

The power steering pump makes an intermittent loud whining noise when at idle, under power, and while turning. The problem comes and goes and only occurs when temperatures drop below 55 -60 degrees. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs in April 2006 but the problem could not be reproduced. After picking up the vehicle the problem began and I returned the vehicle to the dealer to positively identify the noise. Pump pressure was check and determined to be normal. I was told that the pump was normal and no repairs were needed. Through the warmer months of spring and summer the pump has made no noise. Now that the weather is getting cooler the pump is again whinning.
