problem #2

Aug 072015

Odyssey Touring 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 154,000 miles

The 1st and 2nd solenoids started to leak. The problem was caught early when the buyer of my van took it to a mechanic to get it inspected. So what did I do, I took it to my mechanic where he diagnosed the issue and I paid him $350 to fix a leak. My mechanic wouldn't let me pick up my van to drive over the weekend until the issue was fixed. If the leak wouldn't have been caught, this potentially could've cost me a new transmission. It was a little stressful, but nothing to gawk over, or yell at.

I read up on something that stated that when a transmission is leaking, owners put off fixing the problem. So eventually your transmission leaks out all of the fluid and your transmission burns and locks up, costing $3,000-$4,000 to replace.

problem #1

Odyssey 212 Cu In 6 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,913 miles

Both transmission seals were leaking and dropping transmission fluid. I asked how this happens. Honda dealer stated "they just wear out sometimes and if you don't fix them, you will ruin the trans." After paying $400 to fix them at 73,900 miles (out of warranty) the service rep said, "If it happens again, we'll get Honda involved." Whatever that means and it makes me wonder why he said this. Can it be that there is another problem that is coming up soon? Makes me think that I should have stayed with my 2001 Toyota van with 225,000 miles and no problems!
