Haven't fixed this yet but it burns me that Honda limits the coverage of this to the Warranty. Its a defect. They know its a defect and won't fix it. They could have warned it's loyal customers to get the protection screen installed. I may never drive another Honda again.

Yes, happened to me too! This is terrible. I have children also- needless to say NO ONE likes to be driving w/out AC in the summer. There is no choice but to fix this. Took it to Honda and was quoted approx. $650.00 and of course it wasn't going to be covered by them. Went to my mechanic that said approx. $500-$550.00. So lucky to have had my boyfriend find a friend willing to repair it. It's terrible that such a big corp wouldn't help out loyal customers.

So this is the SECOND time we've had to replace the a/c condenser due to damage from road debris. I sugtgested to the dealer that this sure seemed like a design flaw given that it's happened twice in less than a year - the dealer laughed at me!!! How do we get Honda to hear us? this is a design flaw. We will have to reconsider purchase of another Honda in the future - this is our 2nd minivan and 5th Honda.

Dealer misdiagnosed this problem. Piece of raod debris damaged nto only a/c condenser but also radiator. Dealer just wanted to replace condenser. Trusted indep mechanic showed us radiator - insurance covered it. thought this was an unusal occurrenece - not so - happened 9 months later - a/c condenser only.

My car is only 19 months old and has about 13,000 miles on it when this problem happened to me on a road trip. We took the car to a Honda service station in Philly, the nearest city where they quoted us 159 to run a diagnostic but assured us that the problem will probably be covered under warranty. We chose not to do the test because it was the weekend and they couldn't guarantee that we would have the car back the next day. We took the car to our Honda service station when we got back home and they diagnosed the problem as "a rock hitting the condenser." Total fix about $900. Spoke to service station manager who told me to call American Honda. I got as far as the regional manager at Honda who told me they never pay for "incidental damage" and likened it to a rock falling on your windshield or driving over a nail. Next step- join lawsuit at honda-lawsuit.com. I also did a search for toyota sienna condenser problems and did not see this level of problems.

Approximately 5 hours from home, during a 17 hour trip with three children and two women.. the ac went out blasting us with hot air, in 100 degree weather. Found an auto zone to buy freon, called Katy Honda dealership to inquire where to put freon. They at first advised they could not advise. I explained that I had three small children in 100 degree weather and they then advised where and how to put the freon and said - this would not solve the problem, as it sounds like a rock hit the condenser, or a part failed. FIRST and foremost - the rock hitting the condenser sounded "out there", not knowing how many have had similar problems with this car. Brought Odyssey into Katy Dealership to have looked at - was told 7 hours after having my car and $90 later, that they speculate that I hit another car, or a car bumper my car and broke my condenser and was not covered by warranty. I fought back saying that the car has no damage to bumper, had never been hit or repaired, etc. They called back and said again - we are just sepculating that the car may have been hit or hit underneath by pebbles that tore the condenser - advised that the hose was bent and torn as well. $360 for condenser, and $78 for hose. Honda then advised my husband that with labor - cost would be for us to pay $1500! My husband we to dealer after being there 2 days and asked to see all the parts. Found that the hose WAS NOT in need of replacement.. Honda then said - oh we recommend it, but is not critical and was NOT broken, bent or torn!!! They then quoted my husband $850!
We took the car, ended up not paying their $90 inspection fee, and had to pay a little over $700 at our mechanic.
I will never give Honda another dime for parts, repairs, etc.

I too am a victim of the infamous "rock hitting the condenser". I took my vehicle in after the air conditioning quit working expecting a minor problem (internal fuse or similar) but was bowled over to find out an object damaged my condenser. Worse, the young representative was of no help. He stated this was not covered under warranty and there was nothing he could do. I am shocked that this problem was not disclosed as I clearly asked my salesman if this had happened to anyone else. He stated that he was not aware of any problem or complaints and this was the first he had heard of such a thing. After careful research I find that this is indeed a defect that should be remedied! I will take this further and take the suggestion of one of the other victims and call the national number. I would strongly suggest that others do the same. Anyway, after a little persistence (and twisting my salesman's arm) my dealership bought the part and stuck me with the labor ($420), so my lesson was not as expensive as others.

As others have mentioned, we also had a "rock" or something bust through and had to have our condenser replaced after we had only had the van a few months. I knew prior to taking it into the dealer that they were going to say it was not covered by warranty based on reviews I read on this and other sites. Sure enough, they blamed an act of nature/road debris and stated the design of the car was not the issue. This was a total pain - especially since it happened on the first day of a week long, 1000 mile vacation!

This is so unbelievable! I learned today that a rock bouncing into the under side of the front grill nicked the condenser coil, creating a pin sized hole. But it gets worse. Honda says they won't cover this under my extended warranty, claiming it is an act of nature...I think act of bad design is more accurate.
Then while calling the national Honda customer service line, 800-999-1009, I learned that Honda knows about this problem! They've added a shield to the 2008 model to prevent this from occurring. When I asked if there is even a kit so that 2007 victims can either install before or after the first occurance, the CS representative said they "cannot answer that question." And, of course, this could happen again, and again, and again...at $750 a pop! I will not go quietly on this, and encourage all 2007 Odyssey owners to call the number given above, and/or write a letter to them at: Honda Customer Relations, American Motor Co., 1919 Torrence Blvd, Torrence, CA 90501. We need power in numbers to draw attention to this design flaw and hopefully spare future victims the cost and aggravation I, and as I'm learning, others are experiencing!
When I get my car out of the shop, and the $750 out of my bank account, I'll be doing before and after pictures to add for all to see how unbelievable this is!

I have had my new Odyssey for only 6 mos it has only 6,400 miles on it. I took van into the dealership to see why air suddenly stopped working. I asked if this would be covered under new car warranty, they said yes unless a rock went through the front grill/compressor. Of course after looking at my van they called to say it wasn't covered under warranty because a rock or something went through the front grill causing the whole air conditioning unit to stop working. I was very upset and do not understand how this could cause so much damage. They tried to show me the supposed point of entry and I don't even see any damage to the grill?????? I asked the service adviser if this is something that happens often and he replied about once a month. Sounds like a bad design to me if that is the case. Honda should redesign this and make it stronger. What are the odds a pebble 1/2 the size of a fly would cause this damage.

I purchased an extended warranty for 100,000 miles thinking I would be covered for this problem. Nooooooo!!!! The warranty will not cover this problem even though Honda acknowledges there is a strong and likely probability that the a/c condenser will puncture by road debris. I don't think I'll buy another Honda.
