problem #5

Jun 142012

Odyssey EX-L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Tailgate would not assist in opening or hold open, so loading and unloading is a pain. Honda fixed for free, and now it works fine.

problem #4

Odyssey ES

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Wouldn't think the struts would have failed quite yet, and that door is quite heavy without them.

problem #3

Odyssey EX-L 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,000 miles

Needs to be recalled. Rear lift gate will not stay up, slams down and has become very dangerous.

Odyssey EXL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

I replaced the tailgate stay open assemblies myself. It was not difficult. I ordered the parts online.

The failure did not cause injury but it could have, as the tailgate is very heavy. It is dangerous to operate the tailgate in this condition.

I did not attempt to get it fixed under warranty because that is always such a hassle, and the repair was not difficult. I don't think the parts should fail at such a young age - 3 1/2 years.

Odyssey LXI 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

This is second set of lift gates that will be replaced. When they've failed, the gate abruptly falls on the person causing bodily injury to head and body.
