Took my 07 Odyssey to dealer for vehicle recall on brake issues, guy called from service department telling me that my rear rotors are rusted out and brake pads are worn out, needs to be replaced asap, and it's gonna cost me around $450. My van only around 25.5K and i paid extra for 100k mile warranty. I was hoping that the warranty would cover the repairs because they are recalling their vehicles for brake issues and my brakes were probably damaged by this, guy said that maybe it's my driving style and brakes usually goes bad around 30k miles. I gave a go-ahead to fix the problem because safety of my family is my main concern. What bothers me though is if the brakes will need replacing every 20-30k miles, isnt that a design/mechanical issue?

Problem occurred during warranty but was not so pronounced until later after warranty was over. Dealer conveniently said brakes out of warranty. Several trips to complain didn't help. They know of the problem but will just try to say any stupid things like driving style, or racing to work in the morning with heated rotors and then plunging into puddles of water??? -Totally ridiculous self-serving justifications. The fact that they later admitted soft pedal problem is definitely a cause for uneven wear of rotors as people get spooked coming to stop and having various reactions to the soft pedal problem, which may lead to uneven wear.

I bought this van three years ago. I reported noise problem to the dealer in May/Jun 2010. They said break pedal material is good so they dust off the routers. But, again it started making noise. After that when I went to oil change I complained again, they said its known issue with Honda Odyssey because of the material they made out of. Isn't it ridicules to have a noisy car after spending 40 grand on it. I am trying to get in contact with Honda and update..
Update from Mar 4, 2011: I spoke to a person from Honda, Honda Rep: We spoke to your local dealer where you took the van and they said its from the material they make routers. Me: Then how come other vans are not getting the same noise. HR: I don't know Me: So, you think you cannot replace the router since it is less than three years old.
HR: No, we don't do that. Repeated the same thing she said in the beginning.
---
(After long discussion) Me: So, you are going to certify that whatever the local dealer said is TRUE HR: She read two paragraphs from her notes. Me: All I want just one word answer, YES or NO HR: She read the same thing over and over. Me: Can you send me whatever you said in written? HR: No, I am not allowed to do that. Me: Can I talk to your manager? HR: I am the manager. Me: So, whom should I contact for my documentation and whatever you said is right? HR: I don't have answer for that. Me: Hungup
Guys.. I am never going to buy any HONDA products again. If you want to value your money.. Don't buy it.

Two weeks ago we took my Van in to have the tires rotated and the front end aligned. While there, they completed an inspection and recall work for the soft brake pedal and the transmission. We were told that The front brakes were good at 6/10 and that the back were 3/10 and had about 8,000 miles left on them. We took a little trip and on our return home the rear brakes were making such a horrible grinding noise I was afraid to drive it. I took it back less than 2 weeks since our last visit and was informed that the rotors need to be replaced. Resurfacing would not bring them to spec. This is the first brake job on my van as it is now 3 and had only 35,000 miles on it. I asked how they could be so bad on such a young vehicle with such low miles and they weren't able to come up with any reasonable answers. I know that the 2005 and 2006 Odyssey have this same brake issue. I am starting to believe that this is the case with the 2007 as well. My husband has a company car that is a Chevy with 42,000 and has never needed to have the brakes replaced on it. We have a 1999 honda accord that has 115,000 miles and no brake problems other than normal maintenance performed. This is quite irritating and I intend to let anyone and everyone know about the Honda Odyssey problem!

Worst vehicle I have purchased that cost me almost $40K new from Honda. Brake problems (premature rotor wear), transmission shudder, badly wearing tires, DVD player scratching my DVD collections, parking sesor not working, the worst.
Honda, you should be ashamed of making such poorly built vehicles and I will never ever buy Honda ever again, simply saying it a piece of garbage is an understatement. Worst yet, Honda America is of no help, they are like Japanese Dictators!

I have a Honda 2007 Odyssey and the all four BRAKE ROTORS need to be changed, and I have been the only owner of the vehicle I have had the van since Nov. 20/2006 I always drive the van every where how can this be to a new van? I was quoted a price of 1200$ to fix.
Update from Sep 26, 2011: I changed the rotor and brake pads my self at a total cost of $280 this included shipping. I saved my self like $800 from dealership price. Some very helpful people gave me some very well informed info on part prices, and it is not warrantee part of the van, so I did it my self. I have the know how, to do this myself.

I have had a recurrent rotor issue with the Odyssey. Since about 2013, I've replaced rotors twice and had them turned as many times as possible due to this problem. It continues to happen over and over again. It has to be a product issue at this point! I don't mind regular maintenance costs, but replacing rotors every year is getting costly. And it is not because I let the rotors go too long, it is because I've had them turned so many times we end up having to replace them. It can't be a normal wear and tear issue at this point. The car shakes like crazy when I apply my brakes on the highway >55mph, it goes away for a few months when rotors are turned or replaced and then comes back with a vengence! It's horrible to feel like this on the highway!
