My daughter & her friend were in an auto accident. The friend was in the passenger seat. Upon impact, the seat belt mechanism apparently broke and did not keep the passenger from being thrust forward & having impact with the vehicle resulting in a concussion.

This seat belt is 3rd row drivers side. Until 2 years ago this belt was used less than once a year. With the addition of a third grand child it was necessary to use the third row seating, using the drivers side seat. The 7 year old sat there about 3 times a month an hour each time for 1 year. With no booster seat. A year ago we put the 4 year old in that seat as she only needed a booster seat and was quite capable of buckling herself in. The amount of usage did not change. The damage starts 1 millimeter outside of the upper anchor slide and goes for about 18 inches of belt that pulls through the upper anchor slide. It really does not pull across anything else. I have examined the other belts and only the drivers belt shows an extremely small amount of wear in exactly the same area; the lower edge of the belt that first pulls through the upper anchor slide. I cannot even find any parts of the belt that have disintegrated. Laying around below the belt.. on 6/17/2017 the 4 year old climbed into the seat. She told me it was broke. I was shocked, when I examined the belt at the condition of the belt.

I received a recall notice relating to faulty vsa system in Honda Odyssey. My vehicle was totalled as a result of a single driver accident that occured on ct-15 merrit parkway in January 2011. It snowed that day in Connecticut although there was no visible snow on the highway when this happened and at a particular turn, the vehicle skidded (no break was applied), and after trying to control through turning the steering hit the road divider barricades facing forward and then sideways resulting into damage to radiator system and activating all air bags. I spoke with Honda representative today who advises that they cannot assist me further because vehicle is not available for inspection and they cannot therefore confirm or deny whether the issue was caused due to this matter. My request to speak to the supervisor was declined. I do not feel that my concerns were adequately addressed.

We had rarely used our third seat, when I noticed that the third seat, passenger-side seat belt had a rip in it. It came unthreaded straight across the belt. At first I thought it was our dog; however a large breed dog could not have chewed straight across the seatbelt and there were no other dog teeth marks on the belt. But, I repaired it thinking that it was my dog and the dog was banned from the car. However, we have continued to have the same problem with this belt. With the seatbelt rarely being used, once a new seatbelt is installed, it begins to fray and becomes unthreaded straight across the belt and then comes completely apart. Sometimes the fraying has been above the cover and exposed, but on several occasions the fraying began in the part of the seatbelt that is covered and inaccessible to anyone. I have had at least 5 new seatbelts and this has happened to each one. In one case, a new seatbelt was installed and without ever being used, this still occurred. Once the new seatbelt was installed, I checked the seatbelt daily, and 7 days after the new one was installed, it began to fray again and then it completely separately. The dealership continues to blame the user, although these seatbelts were never or rarely used. This went on for over two years. I have not had a working seatbelt in that seat for over one year. Now, this past week, a seatbelt that is used daily had the same problem. There is fraying across the seatbelt and it has become unusable. We can't even pull the seatbelt because the frayed area gets caught in the top shoulder mechanism.

Seat belt malfunction, 2007 Honda Odyssey, far back passenger seat belt locked up around child in a twisted manner slowly crushing the passenger. Seat belt could not be loosened. Child and parent tried to retract seat belt by raising child only resulting in tighter seatbelt and the suspension of child in seatbelt. Visual - child head is at head rest level and waist of child about 6-7 inches from top of seatbelt retraction unit. Child is in a back arch trying to keep legs touching seat to relive pressure from strap. Solution - parent was unable to get seatbelt to release and efforts resulted in tighter seatbelt. Parent had to utilize pocket knife to cut the seat belt strap. Side note - internet search shows others running into same problem.
