Purchase van from dealer new in 2011. Purchased an extended warranty from dealer, not through Honda. Had regular maintenance performed by dealer.
Started to notice issues with heat on driver's side during December of 2014. Passenger side blows hot air, driver's side blows air but it never gets warm. Took to the dealer in January 2015. They could not find any issues and believe the problem maybe with the heater core. My guess is they have seen it happen before. Their estimate to fix was $900.00. I assume because of the labor involved to replace.
Advantage Extended warranty said they would not cover because there was no defective part. Even after I called and told them the dealer wanted to replace the heater core so there is obviously a defective part.
Called Honda and they indicated they would pay for $300 of the $900 to replace. Still doesn't make a lot of sense to me that a car that is barely over 3 yrs old and less than 40000 miles on it would have a bad heater core. Also not sure why Honda would not stand behind their product considering -
1) The cooling system is a closed system(has to be coolant or defective part)
2) The dealership is the only one to ever do any work on the car
3) All regular maintenance was done by the dealership on or before mfr suggested time frames
4) Not really anything I could have done to cause the issue.
I have not taken the car in to be fixed yet. Disappointed because prior to the purchase of this Honda we only bought GM and biggest reason we stopped buying GM was the number of repairs. Probably go with a car with a better standard warranty next time.
