On April April the Engine light came on the dash. The vehicle was independently inspected on April [XXX]. The number one cylinder spark plug misfired due to oil leak caused by vehicle cylinder management system never identified in the 711 page owners manual, warning or recall from manufacturer or dealer Honda of Escondido to the serial owner of two 2004 and 2011 Honda Odysseys or notice of NORCAL USDC class actin lawsuit despite twenty years at same address Honda has hidden the problem and chain causation to fool EPA CAFE standards despite the safety danger of engine malfunction and failure. Honda proposes a false solution of piston replacement citing unpublished Technical Bulletin due to repeat later failure at Buyers cost instead of Honda Owners recommendation of proven disconnection of VCM system at a fraction of the cost. Check engine light would pop on for a small amount of time periodically since I purchased it, took it to shop where they stated everything was fine..as check engine light was no longer on. Just started smelling burning when drove for long periods of time. Yesterday, on the way home with my 8 year old daughter, in freezing upstate NY temps, the gears totally went out. Thankfully I was right next to house and able to put in park and back into drive to get it to click into first gear to get us to house. Gears went out in mid drive, going 60 mph.

I was at a stoplight on 11/16/23; when it was my turn to go (green light) I went to accelerate, and my engine seemed to sputter/choke or misfire before accelerating at a slower than normal rate and then the engine light came on -flashing- and then the traction control/VSA system indicator light came on my dashboard. I was able to make it home, but when we googled the symptoms: Rough idling Lack of power Engine vibrating or shaking Decreased fuel efficiency Illuminated check engine light Illuminated traction control/VSA system / VSA indicator light we saw that we could have a traffic safety issue and did not need to drive it as normal- take it to repair as soon as possible. I contacted our local EXPRESS OIL Mechanic to see if he could read the engine codes, advise us, and possibly fix our car. He reassured me that he had been working on extensive Honda issues for over 10 years, and it sounded like a pretty simple spark plug fix. When he ran the engine check he called to tell my husband and I that it was a fix related to a recent recall put out on HONDA Odyssey 2018-2019. He advised us to contact our local dealer and let them know it was the same issue as the recall. The dealership first said that the recall did not cover our vehicle, then that they didn't have the parts to fix it. I was then connected with a service advisor who said they could check the codes and should be able to fix it. My concern is that it should possibly be a recall and that it should otherwise be reported. Further, that if it becomes a recall, we've already paid to get it fixed and won't get reimbursed for it.

Engine light came on, then started flashing. Needed repaired according to dealership. Repairs made. Engine started sputtering and shaking the van again. Engine light flashing again. Took the van in again for another repair. The van intermittently speeds up when slowing down or breaking. Took the van back in again to the dealership. They found nothing wrong. However, while at the dealership another customer had the EXACT complaints. Intermittent speeding up of the van. Looked online to find that this is an issue with the Honda Odyssey. ECO light comes on when coming to a stop and the RPMs go up then drastically drop. Need to apply breaks hard. The van continues to ride rough. Also while in a construction zone and slowing down, van started to speed up despite me trying to slow down. The engine has already had three repairs done. Each time something new and problem never fixed. Actually seems to be getting worse.

The Honda Odyssey engine turns off while driving. My wife was driving with four children in the car and the engine died causing loss of power steering and brakes. This places all family members at serious risk of injury or death. Took the vehicle to three different service garages and none were able to reproduce the incident or determine a reason. One service garage was a certified HONDA Dealer and Service Center. They also were unable to determine the cause after having the vehicle for a significant period of time. They wanted to start replacing parts at a very high cost but indicated that there was no assurance it would fix the problems. Took the vehicle to another service garage where they said the parts the dealer wanted to replace were working fine and it would not solve the problem. Drove the car home and the engine failed again while I was driving on a highway. I also lost all power to the steering and brakes. The vehicle is available for inspection. I will not let my wife or children ride in the vehicle. It is not safe. There were no warnings prior to the failure. All service garages indicate there are no codes that are generated when they run the computer scans.

The contact owns a 2011 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that when he purchased the vehicle used, there was a recall for the piston ring seat in the engine. The contact took the vehicle to several independent mechanics for what he thought was a simple repair. The repair consisted of replacing the spark plugs, the battery, and ignition coils. The failure recurred with the RPM fluctuating and vehicle would lose power while accelerating. The vehicle was taken to richfield bloomington Honda (501 w 77th St, richfield, mn 55423, (612) 866-8832) and was diagnosed with a misfire in cylinder #1. the contact was informed that cylinders #1 through #3 needed new piston rings. The contact was quoted a repair cost of over $3,000. The manufacturer stated that after investigating the issue, they would not provide any support to have the vehicle repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 111,000.

Replaced the spark plugs for 2nd time in about 5000 miles or less, many error codes I cant erase.burning oil, Honda says it needs piston ring replacement, but they said it is out of warranty I called Honda another location they said the delivery date is 12/3/2010, but they never released the sale date. They have given me estimates of $4,000 to replace the motor or $2,000 to fix it, but I believe it is still under the 8-year warranty period. I have lost business now because I do not have a vehicle I can use for my taxi/shuttle business. I do not know if I should throw a used motor from junk yard in there. How do I know that Honda is not trying to scam me over on the warranty? this issue only says it has affected about 1.5 million vehicles and Honda has settled a class action lawsuit over it. Also, it is a recent $8,000 purchase for me from a used car dealer and now I cant use the van after only 3 months. This car dealer will not help me at all or reply to my messages.

Tsb #11-033 I"M having the same oil consumption problems that they notified owners about in this bulletin number above. When I called to ask about the recall they inform me that my vehicle is not VIN specific to recall. I don't understand what the VIN number has to do with the issue??? my vehicle is burning oil as described in the lawsuit that the were found guilty of back in July of 2011. I got my oil changed on 6/19/2011 and was adding oil on 6/21/2011 as you can see with the documents provided. I don't understand how my particular vehicle is not cover in the recall. They were found guilty! my vehicle has the exact same problem! they should be liable to fix all problems associated with my Honda Odyssey. Can you please give me answers as to why they are not" thank you,

My van has codes 4 time cylinder 3 issues now it has codes 3 times in 8 weeks cylinder deactivation bank 1 and 2. I have 3 cases files with Honda and the oil consumption test performed in which they stated it did not qualify but when I. roughy it in for another oil change it was empty and had coded again my van by bin number is within the Honda bulletin 11-033 and qualifies in the misfire settlement lawsuit extended warranty I continue taking my vehicle to Honda with no help. The Honda technician there said another mechanic had put a wrong spark plug in my van but all the spark plugs are the sam and only cylinder 3 keeps fouling they have no proof or evidence that it was the wrong spark plug just the option but I have paper work stating it is compatible with my vehicle. I can not take my kids out of town on vacation or work because of the issues that I am rightfully owed to fix by Honda flaws in their product. I have been going to tim short Honda in ivel ky. Honda says it's up to the dealer to honor the warranty and recalls. How can I get this issue fixed? I am going on 2 yrs with this issue and still owe 4 yrs on this vehicle.

The engine reported emissions failure followed by vsa activation. This was later diagnosed to engine misfire and damage to the piston rings. The vehicle was on the freeway when this happened and went into limp mode. It also started vibrating and would not accelerate. The vehicle has been maintained by a Honda dealership with all required and optional services performed.

12/23/13-while driving on I95 at 65mph the vehicle engine shut off without warning but the radio/lights remained on, vehicle became difficult to steer and brakes had to be pushed to the floor, vehicle came to a stop on the side of the road approx 300 feet later. Vehicle restarted and was driven to dealership, dealer stated could not be replicated and that fuel system needed to be cleaned, service performed as suggested. 12/25/13- while coming to a traffic light, engine shut down without warning but radio/lights remained on, restarted and drove home. 12/26/13- while approaching stop sign vehicle engine failed but radio/lights remained on as in accessory mode, steering and braking became difficult to control vehicle, this time the engine light came on and remained lit. Van was towed to dealership to be repaired. Dealer stated no error code although the engine light was visibly on, no obvious reason for the vehicle to do this. Dealer suggested replacing engine control module at their expense. Repairs have not been completed yet as they are waiting on the part to arrive. During these failures there was no warning and little time to react, the van became near impossible to steer as if the steering wheel was locked when in the anti-theft mode after parking. The vans brakes although pushed to the floor did not respond immediately even while traveling at low speed.

On 9/3/13, while driving five children to school in our leased 2011 Honda Odyssey, the engine shut down abruptly and without warning while I was turning through a major 4-way intersection. The steering wheel and brakes immediately locked, leaving me completely paralyzed and unable to control the vehicle. The Odyssey coasted into a yard, narrowly missing a large pole, where I was able to place it into park and restart it. I drove back onto the street and exercised great caution to proceed the short distance to school. Approximately one mile later, the engine completely shut off once again. This has occurred a total of 5 times over the past year (twice while stopped at a red light and three times while the vehicle was in motion - twice on city streets and once on the highway). I delivered the vehicle to our leasing dealer, ganley Honda in North olmsted, Ohio, on 9/3/13 for service, where it remains to this day. Ganley Honda's service department has been unable to identify and/or resolve the cause of the engine problem. They have indicated that unless they have "evidence" of the malfunction, the vehicle is fine and safe to drive. Since their computers have generated no error codes and road tests have not replicated the potentially latent malfunction, they maintain that there is no problem. They are now ready to return the vehicle to us for the duration of our lease (we have five months remaining). This is the fifth vehicle over the past 16+ years that we have purchased through this dealership. Given the engine's pattern of shutting down unexpectedly and without warning, leading to the steering wheel and brakes locking, we feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive and are unwilling to place ourselves or our children into it unless the cause of the engine malfunction is identified and the problem is resolved.
