About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I was pulling into a drive through on December 6, 2020. As I applied the brake (I drive with one foot - my right foot) with my right foot, the engine revved up and the van moved about 5 feet forward as I increased the brake pedal pressure. I then shifted into neutral. The engine went to red line. I pushed the power button. No one was injured, and the vehicle didn't touch anything as the drivethrough ahead of me was empty. The day before, the ldw and fcw fail light came on in the dashboard while my wife was driving. We have taken the van to the local Honda dealership for a checkout / diagnostics of what happened. Honda has opened a case on this for us: Case is 11754879. No pictures or video available, unfortunately, although I am checking with fadi's at 12360 westheimer road 77077.

After getting a car wash from an automated car wash, while driving to a parking stall to vacuum the interior of the vehicle. In the process of turning left into the parking stall and braking to park the vehicle, the engine suddenly rev'd, accelerating the vehicle over a parking curb block and into a pole at the car wash. The resulting collision happened across the span of half a parking space and knocked the vehicle backwards a couple feet after colliding with the pole. The collision triggered both front air bags and resulted in a total loss of the vehicle and property damage of the car wash.

When driving between 20-30mph, my vehicle convulses during a gear shift, every time I switch from 2nd to 3rd gear. Current vehicle service bulletin exists. 17-044 and 17-043 issued on 2-28-2018. No warranty offered after 60,000 miles. I'm currently at 67, 700. No assistance being offered by Honda or authorized dealer. If service bulletin does not good the issue, Honda recommends transmission replacement!! as a consumer, I feel this is a safety concern with such low mileage and feel Honda is responsible for the repairs, not the consumer. To issue a tsv means they know this is a known issue in multiple vehicles.

On several previous occasions and on this date in particular experienced a serious jerk that appeared to be transmission related when starting back from a low mile per hour slow down. After the jerking between gears it seemed to operate more smoothly the next time. This intermittent problem is concerning as the vehicle has less than 15,000 mile but the warranty is almost half over in months. Am considering pursuit of a "lemon" law claim for this and other more minor issues. We told the dealer of the incidents and they said that the next time it happens we need to go to a Honda dealer immediately and not turn off the engine to see if the error is recorded in the on board diagnostic system. Not a very convenient fix.

Rpms race while van is in idle an takes off with a jump in transmission. Clanking noise metal on metal in rear brakes, downshifts at lower speeds when trying to accelerate above 35 mph, slowing to make a turn and transmission jumps feels like being rear ended, parking brake doesn't engage at times, on flat when putting into park transmission clunks and vehicle has a definite movement like something falling out or on vehicle, looses power at 65 mph no matter how much the gas pedal is floored then suddenly jumps into high speed thrusting van forward, transmission jumps severely when parked on a graded slope and make metal clanking sound. Dealer says there are no issues and this is all normal. This is a direct safety issue for me and I am worried that something might happen causing an accident. At one point some adjustments to sensors were performed but did not correct issue. Brake issue discovered and attempt was made to correct twice. Told this is normal. Also a loud electronic computer sounding like an ancient reboot of an old computer is greatly noticeable when the problems act up. Told this is normal an no problems by the dealer. I feel I am being ignored and treated like a stupid person each time I call. Service manager actually stated that his hands are tied and took to next level of district service manager who stated this is normal. I beg to differ. The district service manager did not speak with me at all. What game is Honda playing. Safety issues and performance of vehicle are being ignored. Rearview camera is acting up as well as electric door locks and sliding doors are slow to respond while closing. Worried about safety while driving.

As I try to accelerate from a low speed, for example entering an intersection or a highway, the transmission slips and bangs into gear, causing the van to hesitate before it moves, it is a violent feeling, almost like being rear ended from another vehicle. I have brought it to the dealer numerous times and had the technician experience what I was talking about verifying something is wrong. Then when I go to pick it up after its been fixed, I am told by the manager that it is normal because no codes came up.
