Odyssey Touring V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,464 miles

This is 4th time my van was in the shop to fix the creaking doors...I had to transfer car seats to a loaner for my 2 mo old baby, my 2 yr old and my 4 year old . It took 4 days this time to get my van back and the doors are STILL CREAKING! My husband and I purchased a new 2015 Honda Odyssey Touring from Russell & Smith Honda in Houston, Texas to accommodate our growing family, but we are now seriously questioning this purchase as well as the Customer Service support from Honda. My husband and I have always been loyal to Honda/Acura and in fact have only ever owned Honda/Acura cars. It is for this reason that we decided to go with the Honda Odyssey versus the Toyota Sienna. Within a few weeks, we noticed problems with the electrical system in the car as well as creaking noises coming from the passenger sliding door. We took the van into Russell & Smith Honda to fix the previously mentioned issues as well as to fix damage that had been done by the Russell & Smith Honda technicians while installing window tinting. A week later we were returned the van UNFIXED. In fact, it now has even more problems. The creaking in the passenger side doors has become increasingly annoying and I am concerned for the safety of my children. It sounds as if the doors are going to slide open when accelerating, slowing down or turning my vehicle. The fixes the technicians have listed are quite concerning. A technician reported that they “slid a pry bar down and…hammered the sheet metal surface apart.” I do not have the time nor should I have to continuously take it back into the shop for repairs. I have 3 small children and it is hard to work around their schedules and also transfer car seats back and forth while also keeping an eye on all three kids. Since purchasing the van, I have had two cases opened with Honda Corporate - one which I requested be kept open due to my ongoing problems and the second that was opened after my previous case had been closed against my wishes. I have taken my van in to be repaired five times and cumulatively the van has spent two months in the shop for over a dozen problems and ¬¬now needs go back in again to fix the creaking in the doors for the sixth time, work on the A/C for a second time, and fix a transmission fluid leak that was identified at the Honda Service Center when I took it in for my last oil change. I am extremely disappointed with this vehicle. A new and/or reoccurring problem surfaces every few weeks. Problems that I have had with my new van are as follows: 1. I have now been waiting 3 months for Honda to locate a loaner vehicle for me so I can get the van fixed

2. My case manager will not return my phone calls

3. Right and Left passenger door creaks at stop and go and also while making turns When I was able to connect with my previous case manager at Honda Corporate, her demeanor was often rude and condescending, she was quick to get off the phone and did not provide information or answer my questions (either at the time of the call or by following up later). After numerous requests, she arranged for me to meet with a regional technician at the Honda of Spring location. The regional technician was also very rude and could not help me with the electrical issues in my van. When the Service Manager at Honda of Spring (who has been very helpful throughout the process) and I duplicated the electrical issues numerous times, she had mentioned that a system update may be required to fix this problem. However, the Regional Technician was very rude and continued to deny the problems and stated these were ‘design characteristics’. It was very apparent that he was trying to limit Honda’s liability/responsibility to update an obvious system flaw in my vehicle by characterizing it as “just the way it was designed.” My husband and I paid a premium price to enjoy the features of the Touring model and are extremely disappointed that the fundamental mechanics of system do not work properly, and that Honda does not want to take responsibility for their issues or even admit that there is an issue in the first place. The amount of stress, time and worry has become insurmountable, and for a brand new vehicle this has been an unacceptable inconvenience and burden.

Odyssey Touring V6

This is the FIFTH TIME my van was in the shop to fix the creaking doors and it is STILL NOT FIXED. Honda wants me to bring it in for the SIXTH TIME, but this is getting ridiculous!! Cumulatively my car has been in the shop for about TWO MONTHS to try and fix this problem. I do not have the time nor should I have to continuously take it back into the shop for repairs. I have 3 small children and it is hard to work around their schedules and also transfer car seats back and forth while also keeping an eye on all three kids. The amount of stress, time and worry has become insurmountable, and for a brand new vehicle this has been an UNACCEPTABLE INCONVENIENCE and BURDEN.

Problems that I have had with my new van are as follows:

1. I have now been waiting 3 months for Honda to locate a loaner vehicle for me so I can get the van fixed

2. My case manager will not return my phone calls

3. Right and Left passenger door creaks at stop and go and also while making turns

4. Transmission fluid is leaking

5. When beginning to accelerate, sometimes there is a jolting - like the gears are catching

6. Rattle on drivers side dash when driving down the highway at speeds greater than 65-70mph (actual rattle inside the car, not the wind blowing through the roof rack/crossbars)

7. Steering wheel volume does not work when in Rear DVD mode. When increasing volume on the steering wheel, it changes the source/mode instead - changes to XM Radio. The volume button should not do this, it should only adjust the volume

8. Back speakers have to manually be turned on each time the car is started or if there is a change in the mode/source - i.e.) XM to FM or Navigation, or the Bluetooth initiates, etc.

9. If on rear audio mode and press the physical Navigation button, it will change to FM or XM Radio rather than going to Navigation - and again the rear speakers turn off

10. When rear speakers are on the sound is very low

11. Side Door panel damaged during tint installation

12. Alarm had stopped beeping when locking car by both pressing the exterior door lock button or key lock button

13. "Place Names" and other Navigation options are not always available on the Navigation menu while driving > 5 mph while other options remain accessible

14. Received notification that FCW and LDW cannot operate

15. Wind noise on passenger front area

16. A/C Smells musty/mildew smell when turning the car on after the exterior has gotten wet from the rain

Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

New 2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite with less than 2000 miles, driving at very slow speeds (0.25-0.5mph) but driving over an uneven road or driving into a driveway from a street for example and the passenger sliding door will creak or groan or otherwise make a noise that it is not solid with the body/frame. This is annoying to say the least as no other door on the van does this. I emphasize this happens at extremely slow speeds while going over uneven terrain typical for twisting the vehicle body/structure slightly enough that a mismatch between the frame and the sliding door must occur to make a noise.

Have phoned 2 Honda dealers and one dealer guessed it was the passenger sliding door before I even said it. Have not brought it in to be repaired under warranty yet.

Update from Jun 11, 2015: Took the van into the dealer for the first oil change at 15% oil life remaining at around 5500 miles. Advised dealer of the door groaning noise while going over uneven ground. Fortunately dealer drove van into the shop over a ramp which made the noise repeat verifying the problem to the dealer.

Dealer kept the vehicle overnight and the next day it was ready.

After picking up the van and driving it over uneven terrain, now the vehicle is noise free! I was impressed because I did not expect a dealership to resolve a problem like this or at least not without significant effort to push them to resolve it. Congrats to the Honda dealer that we bought our Odyssey from. The problem is resolved!

Update from Jan 12, 2016: UPDATE:

David W. asked me how the dealer fixed this sliding door noise.....I couldn't email him directly so I'm adding an update to my original complaint.

According to my wife: They took apart the door and tighten every screw and bolt, said there was one that was really loose. Seems to fix it. No more rattling now. Now the mileage is over 12,000 miles and no further complaints with the door or anything else.

Hope this helps! rgds Kerry
