This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Honda dealer.
At 63,000 miles, check engine light came on with a code for misfire on cylinder 1. Mech said that I need the rings replace on cylinders 1-3 because of fouled spark plugs. He said to press for warranty coverage, but not his call. It was the service guys call.
The problem is cause by the VCM aka eco mode. I said this was not a 60K mile problem. I pressed for a grace period on the powertrain warranty and they covered most of the cost estimated at $4000 repair bill mostly because I did all my service at a Honda dealer. They charged me less than $600. Suggest looking into a VCM Muzzler or VCM Tuner II to prevent engine going into eco mode.

So, we had picked up our NEW VAN from Barber Honda. Van had been in the shop for 17 days. They felt they had fixed the first engine problem.
All rocker arms on the front cylinder head had been replaced. On our way home. The engine light began to flash and the van began to misfire.
Got home, turned the van off then turned it back on and engine light came on and stayed on. First thing this morning, we called the Honda dealer which had fixed it the first time and then called the dealer that is closest to our home where we purchased the van. They said to call Roadside Assistance and have the vehicle towed to their shop. In the meantime they would arrange a rental car for our family of 7 at their expense.
This is very disappointing as I have a large family and purchasing a new vehicle I wouldn't expect to have engine problems.

Purchased our new van August 5th, 2016, Went on a family vacation and racked up 1200 miles. August 27th, 2016 22 days following our new vehicle purchase we were on our way home from Los Angeles and the tire light came on. Within 1 minute the engine light came on and the van began to misfire. We were on the Grapevine where there was quite a bit of traffic. Immediately pulled of onto the shoulder and called Roadside Assistance. In the meantime of waiting for a tow company, we called the dealer where we purchased our van and explained to them the situation. Roadside Assistance wanted to tow us south to the closest Honda Dealer. That's what the roadside coverage would cover. We wanted to be towed north, in the direction of our home. We had to haggle with the dealer so they would reimburse us the $180 extra mileage fee to be towed in the direction of our home. About two hours later we were on our way to Barber Honda in Bakersfield. We arrived and were greeted by John the service manager. He immediately got a technician to check the van out. We left to get something to eat and when we returned he had a Honda Courtesy Civic available for us to take home. After several days, they could not figure out what was wrong with the van. My husband then called the dealer from which we purchased the van and requested a bigger vehicle so we could get around as a family. This is on Tuesday, August 30th. the Service Manager said we were not covered for a rental car because we didn't purchase the extended warranty on the van. (Why would I need extended warranty on a new van?) My husband then asked him if he was going to stand by there 100% Customer Satisfaction guarantee or not and he said he would have to get back to us. My husband asked him if he would be getting back to us the same day or the next. The service manager stated he would try to get back to him that same day. A little later, he called and said they would arrange a rental vehicle and we could pick it up the next morning but we would be responsible in returning Barber Honda their courtesy vehicle. The next morning, Wednesday, August 31st. My husband called the dealer and requested to speak with the service manager. He never called us back. Within 5 minutes, Barber Honda called and said the Area Manager had told them to get us a Honda Odyssey. my husband went that afternoon and swapped the Civic for the Odyssey. At that point, Wednesday, August 31st 2016 they (Barber Honda) still could not find the issue with our van. As of Thursday, Sept 8th,. 2016 they believe they found the problem. The rocker arm is stuck in VCM. They ordered the parts and will have them replaced the next week. Monday, September 12th, 2016 the service manager from Barber Honda called and stated they believe they have fixed the van. The service foreman is going to test drive it and they will let us know. Tuesday morning September 13th, the service manager called and stated the vehicle is running to design, we can come pick it up.

2016 Honda Odyssey that I just bought used not even 2 months ago and the engine light starts flashing and traction control light comes on. Jerks when accelerating and stopped, doesn't want to go fast. Have it towed to Honda dealer. They say it's stuck piston rings, they call warranty company and have them come look. Guy acts like it will be covered but then they get the call 4 days later that it is not covered because it is considered wear and tear. Called the dealer I got it from and asked why they didn't catch it and if they even inspected the vehicle, but of course no one has called me back.
