Our 2019 Honda Odyssey transmission failed while driving my kids in early 2020. The minivan was towed to Grappone Honda in Concord, NH and the transmission was replaced. The new transmission now jerks and stutters particularly at low speeds (20-40 MPH). I am afraid it is going to fail again and place me or my family at risk for being in an accident. I took the minivan in for service on January 6th of this year and was told that the transmission was working fine. This transmission is clearly not working correctly and I am concerned we will be in an accident.

Highway driving straight on level ground at 70mph. Hit gas to change lanes and van slowed to 55mph before it picked up speed again. 1300 miles later on same trip driving 60 mph up a small incline hit gas and van slowed down to 45mph before it picked up speed again. Two different Honda dealers told me they couldn't help with this issue. 36,485 miles on van when first problem occurred.

Transmission is slow to get into first gear. There is a noticeable and significant delay when going from a complete stop and pressing the gas to go quickly. This occurs more frequently before the engine warms up. I have spoken to the local Honda dealership and they say its just how the transmission is supposed to work. This has occurred since the vehicle was brand new and has persisted til now with thousands of miles on the van.

The 9 speed transmission jerks and bangs while moving. Driving from slow speed the car jerks and stalls. At hwy speeds the car bangs very hard - it seems like it is being bumped. We thought it stalled at hwy speed after it banged very hard. Honda service says they cannot find problem. We have been driving car for 2.5 years - and the issues are getting more frequent and harder.

Experienced issues when trying to accelerate from a stop, merging into traffic, driving uphill and changing gears at low speeds. Here are the specifics: Sudden, unexpected and violent shaking and jerking (commonly referred to as 'juddering' or 'shuddering') hesitation when pressing on the gas pedal surging, clunking or hard 'downshifting' also after a recent recall service done on the doors, I did not notice any change, the door does not respond well upon pulling the door handle, sometimes it needs to be pulled upon multiple times for the automatic side door to open.

When the vehicle is parked, the head unit malfunctions and stays on, especially after being used for apple car play. It has left us stranded and had to be towed once, two other times, jumped as a brand new vehicle. More importantly, the transmission has issues. Between 20-30 mph, the vehicle disengages with the transmission, loses power, then 'clunks' back into gear. It makes the driver and passengers unsteady, and causes unanticipated slow downs and speed ups. Adult passengers in my vehicle have yelled out in confusion over the loss of power and speed. When the vehicle is stopped, it sometimes hesitated to go into first gear, and then 'clunks' into first, experienced as a 'neutral drop' as if one is driving a manual transmission. Overall, the transmission is clunky, and leads to unexpected vehicle movements, unsteady feedback, and extreme discomfort and worry.

While in motion on the highway the speedometer and center infotainment system crashed, went black, and began to restart shortly after. While rebooting the car shifted into neutral and there was no warning of the gear changing. The car was able to get off the highway, and had to be towed per the dealers recommendation for safety.

While driving approximately 24 mph, the vehicle shifts erratically intermittently. A loud pop is heard and the vehicle lunges forward. Brought it to the dealership, they told me the problem is brought to their attention often by many customers, but that Honda says the transmission is working as designed. The issue wasn't apparent for the first 15,000 miles, but now it happens about 1 or 2 times every time I take the car out. This happens typically when you start from 0, ease up to about 24 to 26 mph, take your foot off the gas for a couple seconds, then try to accelerate again. It will hesitate, then pop/lunge. Not every time though. This specific issue is mentioned in a class action lawsuit in Florida and also in numerous message boards online.

Between the speeds of 24 - 27 mph there is a quick jolt that seems like the car is shifting. The jolt is repeatable. We have found several online forums where others are complaining. Https://www.odyclub.com/threads/2019-Odyssey-hard-shifting-3rd-gear.353891/ we told our Honda dealership and they said it was a known issue but they did not have a fix yet and there is not a recall at this time. The 10 gear transmissions of the same year were recalled due.

Jolt or hard shift on 9 speed transmission when shifting in low gear. Honda said this was caused by the smart transmission software trying to match driving patterns. Resets reduced the problem but they soon came back - unknown if this causes long term issues with transmission.

Transmission shifts erratic. When going from reverse to drive the transmission delays engagement to 1st gear. This behavior causes a clunk to 1st gear and sometimes rapid acceleration when it does engage and the gas pedal is depressed. Vehicle has been to the dealer many times to address but the issue remains.

I was driving my 2019 Honda Odyssey up a slight incline and then suddenly I lost all power. The minivan automatically put itself in neutral and the dashboard screen switched between saying, "stop driving when safe. Transmission problems. See manual" and "transmission problem. Apply parking brake when parked." Given that I had no power I had to pull to the side of the road. I feel lucky that this did not occur on the highway. After pulling over to the side of the road, I was unable to put the car in park or drive. It was locked in neutral. I turned off the car and when I turned it back on the car had automatically put itself in park and I was unable to put it into any gear (drive or reverse). I called Honda road side assistance who scheduled a tow truck to come get the minivan. This loss of power occurred on a city street at about 25 miles per hour. I had two of my little children in the minivan and this experience was quite scary. Both me and my children could have been seriously injured when the car suddenly, and without warning, lost all power while driving. I am concerned that this will lead to serious injuries, particularly if this occurs on the highway.

2/5/2020 I was traveling at highway speeds with moderate traffic, when the main display screen in my minivan started flashing error messages. The radio display screen was acting wacky also. The van started making a loud rapid 'click.click.click." Type noise. I was trying to figure out what was happening, when I noticed that the display said "P" for park. I could not accelerate to merge out of traffic. It happened so fast and was so startling. I was able to coast and move over to the shoulder and stop the van. I turned off the ignition and started it back up and it drove normally. My husband took it to the dealership and they moved the toll tag sticker on the windshield and said it was interfering with the sensors. 2/6/2020 I was too scared to drive it, so my husband drove it. He was on the freeway and the same thing happened to him. It is currently at the dealership. The dealership now says it is loose connections at the battery. The noise it made was horrible and I'm concerned that there is physical damage to the vehicle. The van has just over 5,000 miles on it and was purchased in September 2019

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. While driving more than 20 to 25 mph, the vehicle jerked and stalled. Nalley Honda (4197 jonesboro rd, union city, ga 30291, (404) 994-4321) stated that there was no failure; however, the failure recurred a week later. The contact believed that the dealer had performed some repairs and did not tell her. The contact researched online and saw multiple complaints from others experiencing the same failure. The dealer contacted the manufacturer and informed the contact that the manufacturer had never heard of this type of failure. The contact suspected that the failure was related to the transmission. The failure mileage was 800. The VIN was unknown.
