Last year I noticed rust that had become a gaping hole in the upper part of my SUV's upper frame. Then I noticed there were rust locations at various parts of the roof and rear.

The gaping hole is growing and this problem makes the car impossible to sell, which is something I'd intended to do soon, as my girlfriend will also start driving "our" vehicle and she's uncomfortable with a larger car.

I looked online and found that a number of sites have noted that the Honda Passport and the Isuzu Rodeo (both the same car from the same plant in Indiana) have special problems with rusty frames.

I own a 1999 Honda Passport with 81,168 miles on it. My daughter , who is semi - handicapped, almost lost control of the car while driving last week. We managed to get it over to our repair shop and when they drove it - they also had great difficulty driving. They found the frame had advanced rust in the rear frame are and the drivers side rear stabilizer is hanging on but that's about it. My son went over and verified the frame is completely eaten through. He was in total disbelief that a Honda could be in such shape!! The repair shop says it cannot be repaired / welded as there is not enough good material to weld onto. He says it must not be driven and should be junked.

We are going to have it towed to the local Honda dealer (where we bought it), tomorrow. We'll see what they can do for us but from the looks of the comments on this website, we aren't too hopeful anything will be done. I saw a Honda contact person posted on one of the comments, (Edward Lopez 1800-999-1009 x117741), and we'll see if he is of any help. By the way, should we not get any satisfaction from Honda, needless to say, we will never by a Honda product again nor will any members of our family. The story of this will be told to our grandchildren some of whom are in the military. Woe be to Honda when word gets loose.

Ok Honda step up to the plate and accept responsibility for poor workmanship and or using substandard materials. Search Honda Passport or Isuzu Rodeo frame rust and you'll get plenty to read. For everyone that owns one if you can check out the frame or have someone else check it for you especially around the rear trailing arm, top shock mount, top coil spring mount etc. Don't be afraid to pook it with a screwdriver, you'll probably be surprised what you fine. Contact NHTSA, please go to the Safercar.gov Web site or call our Vehicle Safety Hotline toll-free at 1-888-327-4236. and file a complaint. it takes about 10 minutes and may save a life. If a recall is issued they will have to inspect and possibly repair replace.
