At 2000 miles every time I start the engine when it is cold it sounds like there is no oil in the engine for several seconds. The valves make a really loud clacking noise for several seconds. I called the dealer they say it may have excessive valve clearance and may need adjusting. I will trade it very soon and never purchase another pilot ever again. At 2500 miles I had to add 1/2 quart of oil ! I am not very happy should have keep my last car ! I am now at 3000 miles and the valve noise on cold starts is getting worse.
Update from Aug 31, 2012: I took my 2012 Honda Pilot back to the dealer at approx 4000 miles. The service advisor states the valve clacking noise on cold start is normal as compared to similar models. This is annoying and abnormal for a new car. The dealer is giving me the run around refusing to fix the problem. I will trade this vehicle due to an obvious defect in the manufacturing process. I cannot recommend the 2012 Pilot and I am a loyal Honda customer having owned four Honda automobiles with the 3.5 liter V6 engine.

Upon driving in a residential area, the engine began vibrating more than normal. It was more noticable at slower speeds. Soon, the Engine Light, VTM-4 Light and Traction Control Light illuminated. Upon shutting down the car and starting it up again, the engine vibrations were even louder, with the same light illuminated. We took it to our local mechanic, who was unable to replicate the engine vibrations. After driving it a few times, the lights went out. The mechanic found significant soot built up in cylindar 2, but was unsure what the cause of the engine issue was.
