The vehicle was driven by my [XXX] daughter and at @ 6 pm on [XXX] the engine was making a noise and that the car was starting to slow down and stall, so she called me. She pulled over and shut the car off and then all the dashboard lights started to blink really fast. The car started to smoke from the engine, she got out and called 911. 911 said they would send a tow truck. within a few minutes sparks were coming from underneath the engine and then the fire started. she called 911 and myself again to report the car was on fire. Thank God she was away from the car. The tow co. arrived first, then first responders, then myself. The highway was shut down to put out the fire. Our daughter was hysterical and the car is a total loss. We waited until the car fire was extinguished. The first responders offered medical attention, but she just wanted to go home. There is a current recall for this make and model, but not the year. What my daughter described, sounds like the current recall from Honda for other makes including the Pilot. I posted on social media and a few people reached out to say their 2017 honda pilot had a similar issue, but thankfully no fire. This recall is very serious because they are replacing the engine for owners. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The design flaw causes the hood to move excessive during windy days. It's much more noticeable during highway speeds. The hood flexes and moves up and down as you drive in windy days. During my life time I have driven my different vehicles including vans and even rv but never seen a hood that moves this much. It's very dangerous over time as metals or bolts could simply give. This hood could one day fly off and hurt or kill someone.

At highway speeds, when passing any oncoming large vehicle, the hood flexes, shudders & moves violently up & down as if it is only held by the secondary latch. When parked, there is no perceptible play or looseness at the latch or hinge area. The dealerships have been no help in resolving this problem.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. While the vehicle was stationary, the contact noticed mold in the rear seats and in the folds of the doors. Honda of kirkland dealer located at 12420 ne 85th St, kirkland, wa 98033 diagnosed that water entered into the vehicle through a sealant gap of the firewall behind the dashboard. The vehicle was replaced with a new one by the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,500. The VIN was not available.

When driving at highway speeds & a truck or large vehicle passes me in the oncoming lane, my hood vibrates & lifts as if it is being blown open. It's nerve racking & distracting since the car is otherwise quiet & tight. I'm afraid that one of these times the hood will actually fly open. When parked, the hood seems to be tightly closed with little or no play. It only occurs when an on coming vehicle like a semi or bus passes me from front to back. The nearest Honda dealer to our current home is more than 50 miles away. I have owned many other Honda's but this 2017 Pilot is a new body design. This problem occurs every time we drive on highways or a fast moving large vehicle goes by. It has done it since we took delivery of it brand new.
