We have a 2021 Honda Pilot and the Auto Engine Idle Shut Off has caused a frightening problem. We were at a very busy intersection and we had our 3 grandchildren in the car. When the idol shut the car down and the light turned green, the entire car shut down. We had several messages to restart the car but nothing worked and then nothing worked at all. We had to quickly get the children out of the car, cross the intersection and then call for emergency service and a tow. The car could not be put into neutral because none of the electrical system worked and the car had to be placed on a flat bed and taken to the dealer, at my expense.
The dealer charged us for a new battery, again at my expense, but does not know the cause of the problem. I am not feeling safe in this car especially as I drive our grandchildren around. The idol must be disengaged at all times. I asked the dealer to shut the idol off permanently and they said it could not be done unless I went to an after market supplier. This is not what I expect out of Honda. Safety should be their first concern! My original battery should not have been completely drained at 44K miles and I don't believe the actual problem has been corrected.
