Prelude 4WS

  • Manual transmission
  • 62,000 miles

Same thing happened that happened to my 92 Prelude SI, only worse. Rust developed above the rear wheels a long time before rust showed up anywhere else, & again the driver's side was worse. Cost $700 to have fixed/repainted, & that was only for one side. It's already starting to come back 30,000 miles/2 years later.

problem #1

Prelude 4WS

  • Manual transmission
  • 80,000 miles

A large rust area appeared above the driver's side rear wheel in 1997/80k miles. By 1998/100k miles, an area about 1 inch high by 6 inches wide had rusted through. Had fixed in 2000/120k & rust is already starting to reappear 1 year/10k miles later. Now at 135k miles, passenger side is just barely starting to show rust for the first time, which I can accept as normal. I've noticed the driver's side rust problem on most 4th generation (1992-1996) Preludes around New England. Looks like a design defect.
