The clear coat on the roof of the truck is peeling away. I hope a recall comes and Honda repairs.

I AM PRETTY MAD ABOUT THIS! YOU CAN SEE YOUR REFLECTION IN THE SIDE OF THE CAR. I WAXED AND WASHED THE CAR ALL THE TIME. IT'S A 2008 WITH 40K ORIGINAL MILES! THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED! I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT COLORS HONDA IS REPAINTING. BETCHA ONE OF THEM IS MY COLOR! BUT BECAUSE IT ISN'T A VERY POPULAR MODEL THEY ARE IGNORING IT!

The clear coat (on the hood only at this point) is peeling and it makes the whole truck look like garbage. Honda should be embarrassed. I tell everyone that asks that it is a Honda defect.

The clear coat on the roof of my car is peeling. I feel this is a defect in the quality of the paint job. Even though my car is outside most of the time, I kept it wax every 6 months and it didn't make a difference. I know that there is a recall with the Honda Accord for paint failure and this should also be applied to the Honda Ridgeline. I love the car but the paint job durability suck compared to cars much older than mine.

Ridgeline RTX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,500 miles

2008 Ridgeline RTX, Steel Blue, with less than 43,000 miles. Noticed two large areas on the hood nearest the windshield had discolored paint. It looked like the clearcoat was missing or faded. Now several months later it definitely looks like faded paint. Similar, but not as bad on the top of the roof.. All other areas are glossy. The truck has not been repainted, all the paint is original. I haven't gotten an estimate to fix, but having been in the auto body business with my Dad many years ago I know I'm looking at $1,000 or more.

I've never seen a paint failure like this on a 7 year old Honda.

Update from Nov 1, 2015: I'm original owner.

I just bought this vehicle September 9 2015 for $18,895 with 85235 miles on it. When I checked it out the peeling wasn't there on the hood. I keep the vehicle in garage. I've only driven it about 400 miles. Today October 30 ,I took it to dealer to check out power outlets not working. I saw the white spots on hood and asked the rep what it was. He said it was bird poop. I rubbed on it to see if it was true and I said it's not coming off. He said it was good, got some wax that I had bought from them today.

Well long story short, when I got home I went to auto body shop downtown to ask what it was. Randy from Eagle Tech said clear coat is peeling off. And by this time next year it's going to be like that all over hood and on roof too. He said Honda is aware of this defect in their paint and that should pursue manufacturers warranty for problem. I hope this can get resolved with no out of pocket to me.

I had been in a minor accident and had to have the driver side front door replaced and the paint blended mid way to the front fender, NEVER the hood, about 3 months later, the clear coat on the honda started to crack, I contacted the dealer and they eventually contacted honda who came out and took pictures and "measured" the paint, only to inform me that, the body shop mustve repainted the ENTIRE hood, (really?) the issue is the clear coat from the front of the hood up to the windshield.

Clear coat paint peeling around window frame and roof line on passenger front door. Can I stop this? Does Honda back this up?
