Planning on taking class action law suit against Honda & Denso. Common issue on 3.5 V6 Pilot, odyssey, Ridgeline, Passpot. Shows up as emission problem as per dash light should be cover un 8 year warranty. Issue mostly occur just after original warranty expires. Manufacturing defect, and very unlike Honda to decline claims?

My 2017 Honda popped on the 'Emission System Problem' light around 60K. Service agent said to ignore it, it'll probably turn off on its own. It did. Then it came back and went away for several months. In November 2019 the vehicle started to run poorly -- hesitating on acceleration, burning more gas. Dealer service diagnosed problem.

After some short homework, realized this is a pretty common problem with the 2017 Hondas. My wife's 2017 pilot had the SAME problem right after mine started acting up.

Honda told us both we are off warranty and, so sorry, they don't plan to stand behind the vehicles.

Younger brother informed me last week his 2017 Pilot had the same problem, but was still under warranty when it happened so he never mentioned it.

If you're looking at a Ridgeline or Pilot, beware!

Ridgeline V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

Took my 2017 Ridgeline in for scheduled maintenance at 30,000 miles. Dealers multipoint inspection showed random misfires on cylinders 4 and 5, and fuel system too rich, likely caused by clogged, failing fuel injectors.

They replaced the fuel injectors.

I was surprised by the report, although in the previous week the truck did seem to be idling a little rough at times. They said that they had to wait on the parts, so they ended up keeping the truck for a day and a half. I was surprised and unhappy that the fuel injectors failed, given Honda's reputation, and I was also surprised and unhappy that it took a day and half to fix the problem. On the other hand, I was happy that it didn't cost me anything, as it was still under warranty, and that they provided me a 2018 Ridgeline loaner vehicle.

Ridgeline RTL 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL AWD began exhibiting Check Engine Light intermittently about a year ago, problem would resolve itself and then recur about every two weeks. Recently has also started to 'upshift / downshift' during 40 - 50 mph cruising. Dealer now tells me $1600 to replace all fuel injectors. This is a well documented problem and I'm pushing Honda to fix despite warranty expiration.

Ridgeline RT

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,000 miles

Had been dealing with emissions system issue light for 9 months. First to,me it was a gas cap issue (no gas cap even on vehicle) then light Kept turning off so dealer said they could not do much. To check u til light on. Finally came in w light still on, said it was software. 2-3months later engine had a severe misfire while trying to pass a boat trailer on a highway nearly causing an head on collision due to loss of power to get past. Met with dealer manager and they took care of the problem at no cost. Unsure if it will happen again. In dealership for another potential major issue with shifting/engine bouncing at 40-50 mph driving.

Ridgeline Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,400 miles

2017 Ridgeline (60400 miles) abruptly dropped power while cruising on highway I-75 heading to Atlanta city. Speed decelerated down to 35 mph. Bunch of yellow warning light popped up: Emission control, Hillside assist, Power Steering, traction control, and others. Glad no tailgater on my back and driving on fast lane which made it easy to slide to left shoulder road. It could have been worst. Shocked with a 2200 repair bill to replace fuel pump and fuel injectors. Fuel injectors not covered under my 5 year extended warranty.

I bought a Honda for reliability, peace of mind and to run this truck 1 million miles. This incident changed my mind real quick.

The Emission Systems Problem light came on. Took it in the dealer and wham you have 2 bad injectors. 8,000 miles out of warranty. $1300 later I was back on the road. I suggest buying the 100,000 mile warranty.
