Timing belt tension spring failed causing spring to abrade timing belt until it failed, the timing belt had be replaced 10 months before and only had 12000 miles on it. Auto shop that did the repairs informed me that the spring was not part of the replacement package that was installed 10 months before it failed. When the belt broke a valve disfigured number one cylinder and piston, to be repaired the head was milled, replacement of timing belt and tensioners, causing me 1700 dollars in repairs. This spring should not have failed after only 70000 miles and if it is subject to fail it should be included in normal maintenance.
