The vehicle was parked in our driveway and had not been driven for about 12 hours. We were told by the fire department that the engine smoldered for hours and broke through the fire barrier into the car and ignited the inside.

I own a 2008 and 2009 Hyundai Azera. On 10/28/14 I had to replace the leaking valve cover gaskets at 50,288 miles on the 2009 Azera and on 12/6/14 I had to make the same repairs on the 2008 Azera at 54,035 miles (VIN# [xxx]). the Azera has the exact same engine as the Hyundai veracruz. Models 2007-2012 of the veracruz were recalled on 7/10/14 for the exact same problem (recall 121). When I contacted Hyundai they refused any assistance and said they would only make free repairs on the veracruz even though the engine in the Azera is exactly the same. The Azera should have been included in the recall with the veracruz and Hyundai should make the repairs to the Azera free of charge. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. On Wednesday November 5, at approximately 5:40am, the 2009 Azera came up to an intersection. Failure to stop caused the driver to run the stop sign. The car became lodged underneath a semi tractor trailer, and was dragged several feet before the semi stopped. The driver of the car was killed instantly. He did not have a medical issue that caused the accident. The driver drove this road everyday to work. They were aware of the stop sign, and had a spotless driving record. Unfortunately there is nothing left of the car to prove that the brakes failed. Only the trunk remains.

I purchased a 2009 Hyundai Azera last year from fuccillo Chevrolet in grand island, New York. The car was new and still on the lot after 2 years but I was assured that there was nothing wrong it and I have been pleased with the vehicle up until now. However, yesterday while driving home from work, the car went into an emergency slow-down mode and both the ecs off and check engine light went on. This happened on the thruway while I was driving in heavy traffic which was harrowing. Fortunately, I was able to 'limp' off the highway and get to a side street. I called my husband and the emergency roadside assistance and my vehicle has now been taken to northtown Hyundai in amherst, NY. My husband researched the slow-down/ecs issue on the internet and found that there have been numerous cases of this happening due to a defective throttle control device in many of the Hyundai and Kia models. In fact, a woman at the service counter who had a 2007 Azera had the exact same issue with her car! needless to say, this should be a recall issue and that is the reason why I am writing. It seems that this throttle control issue is fairly common with these vehicles and it is also potentially dangerous. Please make them initiate a recall.
