Hyundai needs to come up with a solution. Several people have ridden in the car and with my not saying a word they all say what in the heck is wrong with this thing? It is going to give Hyundai a bad reputation if nothing is done. Had this happened on a test drive I would not have purchased this car. Great car otherwise, my first Azera (2006) was great so went back to the well for another one but do not like this problem.

With all the computer generated fixes, seems like they could re-program or change the software a slight amount to solve the problem. If it would downshift and stay there until the top of the hill was reached, problem solved, but it downshifts, upshifts, downshifts, and keeps this up until the top is reached. Problem is worse with cruise on, needs to downshift and stay there until engine and transmission can upshift and hold that speed instead of surging up and down. Thought this was a problem with the cruise control but dealer says not so, but they have no solution.

Hope a fix comes about, otherwise, Hello Avalon!!!

Update from Apr 16, 2015: Finally came across a solution for the continuous shifting on hills when in cruise. I discovered that at the first shift down of the transmission simply move the shift lever to the side to the manual position. My car goes to 5th gear when the manual shift is selected so I just manually upshift to 6th and the continuous shifting stops. If it is hilly I just leave it in 6th in the manual position, car performs great. Only thing one has to remember if you slow down until the car down shifts on its own it will stay in the lower gear while in manual unless you upshift it manually or just pop the lever back to the right in the drive position. If you forget and stop the car will remain in first gear unless you manually up shift or go back into drive.

I also had a complaint about the resume feature of the cruise control,it would down shift and accelerate very fast no matter how much speed you needed to regain. This problem was also solved by shifting to manual, bumping up to 6th gear then hitting resume, car picks up speed gradually instead of taking off like a bullet. After car gets to your cruise speed shift the lever back to the right to drive. I still feel this is a software problem in the computer that controls the transmission/ engine setup that could be solved by Hyundai but I am much happier now that I figured out how to get around these two problems.
