My 2010 Hyundai Elantra was having transmission problems. Seems as if it was shifting erratically. I would say it was a delay in shifting, not slipping, but a delay. My car only has 41000 miles on it. I took it to my service dealership where i bought it and they told me that they road tested the vehicle for shifting problems and found a little delay in shifting but not bad. After extended drive they found that under certain conditions would seem to delay in 3rd gear a long time. Performed shift adapt relearn and rechecked. They told me the trans is shifting a lot better and still adapting.

Took my car home and it was worse than ever. called and complained about it and was told it is still adapting. TWO WEEKS LATER WHEN I TOOK MY CAR BACK was told vehicle needs transmission REPLACED! Yes they replaced it no cost to me and gave me a free rental. It took 6 days before i got my car back. I only have 6 more months on my cars warranty. I had no idea that this could happen on my car with such LOW MILES! I also had no idea that this seems to be a problem with this year of car. It seems to be a pattern on this year and model. I am so pissed off that no one informed me about any new warranty on this new tranny I received. When I picked my car up they said they would have someone call me and NO ONE HAS! I also called today, 3 days later and still waiting on info.

Thought I bought a good car now I am freaked out about my 2010 Hyundai Elantra. I also feel that the dealership knew of these problems when i bought this car. The car was 3 years old when I bought it with 22k miles on it. Now that it is all said and done, I am the one who went online to get any info about this problem. 42k miles and complete tranny replaced. I feel SICK!

Well, I bought this used car in 2011. This Hyundai Elantra GLS or GS" (I don't remember), ran perfect till 60,000 miles. The transmission stop working and eventually had shift problem.

The warranty expires at the moment the vehicle begins to fail. Our Hyundai close dealership told us that is very usual in those types of car! I said: What???!!!!! "We received Hyundai with only 19,000 miles with transmission failures." I said wowwww! This car is more cheaper than I expected.

By the way, if you're planning to buy an used car, beware with the ad that says "warranty". Perhaps, the manufacturer has or offers less time warranty that the salesman says. Be careful!

My 2010 Elantra started having shifting problems around 50,000 mile. We took it into the dealer after we started seeing a pattern to the shifting. It will have a harsh 2-3 shift after sitting for a short while. Problem is it is very inconsistent at the time. There were times when the car would downshift into neutral. It has gotten progressively worse and leads me to believe that the shift solenoids are sticking. As mentioned we took the car into the dealership at around 55-56,000 miles and was told it was not a problem. We even had to rent a car (not dealer supplied) for several days as they drove it trying to repeat. The car currently has 80,000 miles on it.

Update from Aug 27, 2015: Shortly after posting this comment, we were rear ended and the car totaled. Did not purchase another 2010 Elantra due to the transmission problem and lack of response from Hyundai in repairing the issue.

I am concerned by the length of time in getting the needed part to repair my car. (Transmission). What is even more concerning is that there is an obvious issue with the transmissions in the 2010 Hyundai Elantras and Hyundai hasn't offered an appropriate remedy. Fixing the car under warranty is sufficient when it happens once...but Hyundai is about to put my car's 3rd transmission in at 70,000 miles...something I might expect at 700,000 miles. What is worse is that the transmission doesn't have a separate warranty. I've owned 2 Hyundai Elantras previously, LOVED them, but this issue leaves me feeling let down by Hyundai. Actually "let down" isn't the proper term...pissed off as hell! No loaner available and car rental reimbursed at 25%. I was told the transmission would take a week to come into the dealer, it was here after 5 days, but the dealer stated that they couldn't fix it for another week! So basically they expect to drive around town in "limp mode" for another week!!! Unacceptable!
