Within just 25,000 miles the transmission was slipping quite badly. I took it to the dealer. They asked me if I had been driving 90 mph. Of course not. They replaced the transmission. All has been well until approximately 85,000 miles. Transmission was beginning to slip. I took it back to the dealer. They stopped the slipping. Took it back again at approximately 92,000 as it was slipping again but this time they couldn't see that it was slipping. I had them note this repeat issue as the warranty was about to expire. I now have 140,000 miles and it occasionally slips. I just wanted to document this here to add to the list of Hyundai Elantra transmission issues.

Purchased a used 2010 Hyundai Elantra automatic from a car dealer this past Jan 11, 2016. Was supposed to have everything checked on it before I purchased it. After a week of driving the car I was wondering why it would lurch when going into passing gear and a lower gear. I finally asked a mechanic friend of mine and he thought it could be the transmission slipping. So I called the dealer and took it in. Two weeks later I have a new transmission installed under warranty. Now looking at all these complaints about the 2010 Elantra transmission I am concerned that it isn't going to last and I am going to have to replace it again. By the way, the car only had 94,000 kms on it. Think I may sell the car back to the dealership once I have it paid off!!!!

I bought this car used from a local dealer through USAA purchase program. The transmission slipped some, but I thought it was due to the fact the car was cold. The dealer's transmission company replaced a shifting module, but that only changed the speed of the slippage from 18 mph, to 25 mph. Well it didn't get better. The transmission slippage worsened with time. A guy at Hyundai told me that this was a known problem with this year car and transmission. It is still at the dealer, being repaired. I wonder how long this repair will last?

Wrote President of Hyundai Canada, Don Romano, about the transmission that failed at 106,903KM shortly after warranty ran out due a faulty engineered transmission, as other complaints attest, however the manufacturer and the local dealer refuses to do anything about it. Was forced, due to the value of the value of the vehicle, to put a used transmission in it so I am hopeful it lasts for a while. How is this for standing behind a poorly engineered product? Would consider taking the manufacturer to court if any other like minded owners wanted to pursue a class action suit against them.

Within a year of buying this car new from the dealership, we began to experience "hiccups" between 25 and 35 mph, where we'd hit the gas and the car would act like it was in neutral. We brought it to the dealership, and they said they could find nothing wrong. Recently the "hiccup" problem got worse, so we brought it back to the dealership. They told us our transmission was going bad and would cost over $3000 to replace. I find it more than a little suspicious that they were only able to determine the source of the problem when the car was no longer under warranty -- especially since transmission failure on this make and model of Hyundai seems to be pretty commonplace.

I find it completely unacceptable that a six-year-old, gently-driven car should need to have its transmission replaced. If I had $3K to blow, I'd buy a beater car and drive it until the wheels fell off -- and I'd probably still come out ahead. I'll never buy another Hyundai again.

I have read the other complaints about the Elantra and I have slippage on 3rd gear. The beginning price to just repair the transmission not replacing it is $1400.00 to replace seals. My Toyota I bought in 2006 is still working without any problems except for replacing the alt, a pulley and a couple of batteries.

I was going to buy another Hyundai but after talking with a couple of sales folk at the dealership, they say it is the 100,000 mile transmission problem. Sounds like the Hyundai is screwing over the customers forcing them to purchase another car. Even though I really like the car...NO flippen way am I going to waste my money on another Hyundai is a Korean manufactured car in which I have owned a Korean car once before and it was a big piece of crap after 75000.

I am putting the word out not to buy Hyundai, I have lived in Korea and I know how the companies work on screwing over the customer . They take too many short cuts in manufacturing the car. Just look at the other complaints! I don't know what other car I will buy but it might be another Toyota or Nissan. Oh ya by the way their 100,000 warranty is worthless the normal warranty doesn't cover the engine or training.

I bought my 2010 Hyundai Elantra on C.L not knowing that the transmission was slipping on 3rd and 4th. The reason I didn't detect it was because on a cold start for the first few minutes the slipping is very subtle. Strangely, after it warms up it gets worse and much more annoying.

I had the transmission filter and fluid completely changed on the car and 200 miles later it is still doing the same thing. This is VERY frustrating. Hyundai really needs to address this issue because it seems to be very common.

Overall good car but when the transmission started to slip under 100k miles I knew I would have issues. Bought this car used, the 10y/100k warranty DOES NOT transfer unless you buy extended warranty which I didn't. The issue started when the car would change gears around 25mph then a few months later around 40mph then a few months later at 60mph. It was at the point where it would slam into gear or rev way up before it could change. Getting on the highway and not being able to accelerate correctly was a serious problem. when the car was warm (as in warmed up, time of year didn't matter) the issue was very bad. Basically I drove to a dealership on a really cold day, sat and let the engine cool then traded it in not saying anything about the transmission. My mechanic told me it would ~$2,000 for the transmission, plus timing belt $500 and brakes were on the fritz another $500 so it wasn't worth keeping.

If you buy this car used make sure you have warranty because there is a very good chance the tran will go under 100k miles, just look around the internet for a few minutes and you'll see im not the only one who had this issue

Transmission started slipping about a month ago. Took it to a local garage and said the transmission is most likely going to have to be replaced. They were shocked to discover the automatic transmission fluid was black, even though it was flushed and replaced less than two months prior. Had it towed to Hyundai dealership, in three hours they confirmed that the tranny was shot and said it was covered, and that if I waited one more week the warranty would have expired. Although I am lucky I feel this is still ridiculous as multiple owners have confirmed how the 2010 Elantra in particular has consistent transmission failures at such low mileage. The year is problematic as previous years have little to no problems with their transmission at all!
