Walked out to a mild, winter day, only to find my rear windshield shattered. There was a hole, so going out on a limb, thought maybe it was vandalism (I live in a secluded area with no foot traffic in the area). Upon further inspection, there was nothing that physically broke the windshield. I called the insurance company to get it repaired (my mistake, I should've called the Hyundai warranty center first), and they promptly sent an Autoglass technician to replace the windshield. After the repair, a family member suggested I call Hyundai about getting it repaired under warranty and I explained my mistake. They said it's already done and would mail a check for the $100 deductible to cover the costs- WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED.

However, that's not the main issue. The main issue is that before the rear windshield was replaced, I placed some tape on the shattered glass to keep some of it in tact. Prior to the new windshield installation, I compared the thickness of the shattered, original glass to the new, and noticed it was only HALF THE THICKNESS OF THE NEW WINDSHIELD. Yes, I realize the tolerances of glass has limitations, but it was only about 20 degrees F, with no ice buildup, no sun (no excessive temperature difference inside the car) and the rear windshield defroster is only used as needed- it wasn't even on, in this case, as the car hadn't even been started yet. What gives?? Apparently, the barely-meets-standards equipment on the car gives.

Breakdown of the issue:

2010 model (4 years old at the time)

Weather conditions: ~20 deg F, no sun, no ice on the windshield, rear defroster wasn't on (the car hadn't even been started yet)

Issue: Windshield shattered due to unknown circumstances & glass thickness was found to be only half as thick as the replacement.
