This car had great reviews for reliability so I'm shocked. Mechanic said the torque converter broke causing metal to shatter throughout the transmission and destroying the transmission. Last fall I had it inspected by mechanic and had a transmission flush over the summer. They said all looked good.

Update from Mar 12, 2021: A transmission flush was done in August of 2019. Crankshaft sensor was also replaced in August of 2019.
