backup camera stopped working backup camera stopped working

Backup camera just stopped working all of a sudden, typical of what you see on the sonata forums. Replacement cost is 810$ in Canada from the dealer. Other complaints on the forum stated excessive corrosion, so I took mine apart (nothing to lose for 800$..) excessive corrosion was definitely the cause, two of the screws holding the assembly together just broke off. Inside there was plenty of rust "dust" from the aluminum housing. Potentially causing a short on the CCA. Two rounds of generic contact cleaner, and one round of WD-40 got it working again. Not sure how long it will last but it is working again. Gaskets which hold the assembly together were lackluster. Permatex black RTV (in excess) not seals the unit.

Update from Nov 26, 2018: now* seals the unit (typo above)

118000kms - backup camera still going strong after this fix. No instances of failure.
