problem #1

Elantra GLS/LI 1.8L-L 4-cyl

This vehicles was purchased new for my wife, and it has left her stranded TWICE! The first time the problem occurred, the car would not go into park so it could not be restarted. I called the Dealer who sent a tow truck. The tow truck driver says he sees this problem, "frequently" with Hyundais. He showed us how to stomp on the brake pedal a couple of times, then putting the car into park.

At the Dealer, we were told there was some problem with "carbon buildup", on a car with less than 20k miles at the time. Supposedly, the carbon buildup was causing the engine to backfire which was affecting some sensor. The dealer recommended we stop using "cheap" gas from places like Quick Trip and Fast Trac. My wife has been using middle or premium-grade gas since then! All from a car that gets nowhere near the EPA advertised mileage!

Ever since the first occurrence, my wife restarts the car after putting it in Park and turning off the ignition, so that she is not left stranded.

the second occurrence resulted in the inability to shift the car into Park. It would only go into Neutral and Drive, no matter how many times the Brake pedal was stomped!

The vehicle has been taken, via tow truck, to the dealer. The Dealer's response, Ed Voyles Hyundai in Marietta, Georgia, was that they could find nothing wrong with the car and they wanted to perform the 30k mile regular maintenance service on the vehicle, even though the car only has 28k miles!

The issue is, as of yet, unresolved.
