I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe. Yesterday my daughter was involved in a t-bone collision. She went over a bump, pressed the brakes, brakes did not take and crashed into the car passing by. Thank God no one was injured. For some reason, whenever you hit a bump or pothole the brakes don't take. It's pretty scary cause the car keeps going. Does anyone else have this issue? Do you know what the problem might be? I've contacted the dealership but haven't gotten a response.

Seems to be an Electronic Stability Control malfunction of some sort. Was leaving an apartment complex with a slight dip in the driveway right where it meets the road, was turning left into the intersection (no traffic light), and vehicle began making awful noises and instantly braking on it's own. Vehicle slowed down and I could barely make it crawl enough to enter a proper lane. Car behind me consequently approached very rapidly but luckily noticed me. Put hazard lights on and crawled for maybe 10 or 15 seconds, then brakes stopped locking. Made sure car was in drive and parking brake was not engaged immediately after car initially acted up but nothing was wrong. Sunny, dry day with no reason for wheel slipping. Electronic Stability Control light immediately had come on and did not leave for another 20 or so minutes.

I wish the light had stayed on because after going to the dealership a few days later, they said there was no error code in the diagnostics test and no way to prove it. Hyundai dealership's guy only wrote "ESC light came on Sunday," rather than the important fact about the ESC causing the car to randomly brake on itself in the middle of an intersection. Dealership washed the car and expected me to go about my day (car was in shop for several hours). Explained to the service department that the issue was a severe safety problem and could easily result in a wreck. They treated it as if not serious.

Talk about buyer's regret. I do not feel safe in this vehicle on top of its awful suspension and defective grinding brakes. Will continue fighting this horrible safety issue with Hyundai. A safety feature should never put your life at risk, and seeing all of the complaints over ESC on this site can tell you that something is up.

I purchased this car new, wanting a safe vehicle since I travel a lot and this is at least the third time the brakes have locked up on me. My brother did some research after my last incident and said he found other people have had the same problem. I am trying to get some feedback and wondering why there hasn't been a recall issued.
