Elantra GTS 1.8L

Power steering failed causing only manual input on Dec. 27/17. Jan3/18 went to car to start it and miraculously the steering was normal!

Jan 4/18 went to dealer and explained all the behaviour so they could inspect ot. Same day got call from dealer saying car was too dangerous to drive...even for them to drive it into their shop!

They ordered a new steering column. Expect to receive car back Jan. 9th and will grill them as much as I can on what the problem was. There has been no recall yet for this that I am aware of.

Elantra Gls Pzev 1.8L

steering stiffens or resists corrections fault free Elantra with brand new tires and electronic air inflation to equalize all 4 tires.. Traveling straight decent road 52mph cruise control on.. suttle changes in road pitch requires minimal corrections to travel path (normal vehicles) This Elantra stiffens up the steering wheel, and requires more effort to correct travel path, then EPS detects this correction and applies steering pressure, then steering wheel gets loose.. well i am already exerting more force trying to correct travel path when EPS kicks in stronger i over correct travel path.. So now it's like we are Zig Zagging down the road drunk.. We don't drink, we're disabled handicapped people.. Suburban Hyundai says I notice this after 3 separate test drives.. serviceman says 2013 Elantra (this one) has No options to program from adaptive steering to soft , hard or sport (just tire sizes) i'd rather have soft selection or whatever keeps the EPS system running evenly ALWAYS.. Anyway, serviceman recommends full column replacement.. does this mean I'll have selectable options with a new MDPS.? who knows.. just fortunate enough that my EPS has Not shut off yet.. Sure hope this column is covered under warranty

Update from Nov 5, 2015: Called dealer today Nov 5th 2015 EPS is fully covered under warranty, and the column is the entire EPS, motor and mdps brain.. it will take approximately 3hrs to do.. well great, ill bring a pillow, make some coffee for me.. Hope they don't touch my tie rods (perfectly straight alignment).. Did i mention they washed my car on yesterday's diagnosis day.. so far, no questions asked just straight forward helpful service.. Hmmmm.. from a dealer service center.. "?" that's fairly Excellent.. High marks for Hyundai and Suburban Hyundai for stepping upto the plate

Update from Feb 8, 2016: Solution to ALL Hyundai EPS sticky steering system.. oil the intermediate shaft U-Joints..

Buttery smooth one finger steering... no more ZigZag effect driving straight roads
