A grinding noise when braking. Very similar to other complaints on this site. If applying more than light pressure on the brakes on not smooth ie: icy roads. The noise is loud and vibration is pronounced.
This car was purchased new and only used several times with under 4000 highway only km in the summer and then kept garaged while away on extended fall vacation. I drove it 1st time upon return at Christmas (in winter) and got the same grinding noise as described by others. I took it to the dealer and they test drove it. They told me there is nothing wrong - the "chatter" is normal abs operation on icy roads. They dismissed US complaints as being not applicable as they were from US built Elantras. I was asked if I had used abs brakes before and answered that my previous car Toyota Corolla had abs and did not have this problem. I was told not to worry and this is normal. I am skeptical but will continue driving and post any further problems here.
