I own a 2014 Hyundai Elantra limited. It handles normally when in town driving but while driving highway speeds, the vehicle veers slightly from left to right and you cannot keep the vehicle straight in center. It is hard to maneuver as the steering appears to stick in either position as you fight to keep it in the center of the road. It sticks more to the left than to the right. I am amazed that there has not been a recall on these cars because there are so many Hyundai's having the same issue. I cannot put a specific date on the incident because the vehicle does this all the time when on the highway so I just picked the date that I bought the car from a dealer.

More often than not, the steering wheel will virtually lock, only allowing me to turn the steering wheel 2 inches, with increasing difficulty after that range in either direction. Making sharper turns literally impossible without having to harshly tug the wheel only effectively moving the steering wheel another 1-2inches with each tug. This goes away when turning off and on the vehicle, and has been happening for over a year now. The power steering light and traction control light both come on as soon as it happens seemingly out of nowhere.

The car was in motion on a street. It kept jumping and would not accelerate, the steering wheel got really hard to move. It makes a clicking noise when I try to turn it on, when I turn on the car white smoke that smells really strong starts coming out of the exhaust and the car won't drive, if I put it on drive it jumps a lot and turns off by itself. I have read an article in which many users of the Hyundai Elantra from the years 2011 to 2015 have this same motor issues. Something is not right with the engine. Even before this happened, the steering wheel feels really rough, its not smooth its not easy to move the steering wheel especially when making a U- turn or turning on a street, I have to pull really hard to make turns, I don't think this is safe.

When driving at speeds over 45 mph the steering feels as if it "locks" in the center position driving straight. Not that it is stiffer to to turn but "locks' in the center position. You must use more force to get past this "lock" or null position. This is not speed sensitive steering! this seems only to happen when driving straight and trying to make small input steering corrections. When using more force to get past the lock position you can tend to over steer, which can be dangerous.

When we drive the car the steering wheel will stick or seem to catch on something which makes it very hard to drive straight and not all over the rd like were drunk. It doesn't do it if you are turning. Only when you drive straight. It has definitely almost caused some accidents, and also tickets too! I would think that the steering would be considered a safety issue and I most definitely think Hyundai would want to make their care owners their priority since we are driving their name and reputation. I most definitely want to believe that my life and safety of myself but also my kids and husband as well! thank you for taking the time to read this.

The steering wheel sticks while driving down the road. When you try to turn into a curve you have to be very forceful with turning the steering wheel which leads to either ending up in the other lane or in the ditch. This is a safety risk and needs to be fixed. This is not just happening with my car, its happening with several. Please investigate the problem further before someone is seriously injured

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai elentra. While driving 55 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel continuously went in a circle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to lakeland Hyundai (1500 w memorial blvd, lakeland, fl 33815 (863) 682-1100) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinon and clockspring malfunctioned and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that only one part, a rubber seal, would be covered under warranty. No further assistance was offered. After speaking with the manufacturer, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 67,300.

My 2014 Hyundai Elantra has numerous issues. The car feels unsafe when driving down interstate when a very small flaw makes it seem you are losing control of the vehicle. It feels as if the back end is coming around as if it is going to do a 360 in the road. It also has a feeling in the steering wheel that it wants to lock up and have to apply more pressure to wheel and it finally breaks loose but feels uncomfortable as if you are going into other lanes. It does this in either direction. Sometimes I feel the steering is locking up and could cause a major accident. There have been many different reports of these same issues and apparently Hyundai charges outrageous prices just to tell you nothing is wrong. There is something wrong with these cars and really needs attention before someone is killed.

After less than 2 years, the car battery dies and disables the control of this particular car and year. Many customers, according to reviews, seem to have the same problem. Should the battery falter when driving on a highway, serious accidents could result. My vehicle was moving at a slow pace in the parking lot when the battery died. I lost control of the car. I was not expecting the battery to die as it is only about 18 months old. I do not have a picture. The car is at the dealership.

I have a 2014 Hyundai Elantra which for some reason when going into a turn on a road or street that has some bumps on it the car when hitting the bumps chatters sideways. I had filed a complaint once before on the same problem now to add to the problem is the fact that just yesterday on 25 April while driving on a 2 lane road doing about 50 mph there were bumps in the road and I as I navigated the turn my car slid sideways approximately 2 feet and hit the shoulder which blew my rear tire. I just called the service station and it will be approximately $161 to replace the tire. The situation is very dangerous. I could have been hurt seriously or killed, the call was very hard to control after hitting the shoulder and blew out the tire

The steering locks in the center as if there is a catch or something, what happens is, while driving your trying to keep center in your lane, as the car will either drift to the left or right, it will never stay centered, ok so while doing so, once you try to correct to center the car, the steering wheel seems to lock or catches, so as, when your trying to correct it, it takes a lot of force to over come this locking or catching in the steering wheel, so much as to, once your able to over come the locking/catching it then over corrects and causes the car to dart the opposite direction. It has caused me numerous times to go into on coming traffic or onto the shoulder, this is very dangerous, as I race dirt track, I know how to handle a car and I can say with a 100% firm conviction, that this is absolutely unsafe and a huge hazard to human life.. and this happens every time you drive it and at all speeds, though becomes increasingly dangerous as speeds increase, now also ill be making a youtube video of it soon.. 2014 Hyundai Elantra electronic steering dangers or something of the like.. I really hope this is resolved asap.. peace and thanks for this forum.

When driving at highway speeds in a straight line the steering sticks. As the car drifts in the lane it takes an extreme amount of pressure to move the steering wheel and then it over corrects. I have two Elantras and they both have the same problem. I have been researching and see people have had this complaint since 2011.

2014 Elantra with approximately 13,000 miles. At highway speeds 50-70mph, the steering wheel sticks at the center position. Slight pressure normally required to change lanes does not effectively turn the steering wheel enough to correct steering in order to remain in a straight line. When enough pressure is applied to correct steering, a slight pop is felt in the steering wheel. Additional complaints can be found at www.Hyundai-forums.com/md-2011-present-Elantra-sedan-coupe/226066-steering-binding-sticking.html by other Elantra owners.
