This has been a nightmare! We purchased a used 2015 Hyundai Elentra for my 16 year old daughter 2020. We were not aware that they were known for peeling paint. In the fall of 2022 the paint starting peeling off in giant chunks. Hyundai refuses to repaint the car due to it being after warranty. What's amazing is that they know this is due to their faulty white paint. There have been many class action lawsuits and they have still continued to use the same paint on later models which continue to have the same issues.

Bought it in Feb 23 with one quarter size paint chip on hood. By June 23 they're all over the hood and on roof. It's horrible looking. Will Hyundai fix this ?

My name is Cynthia A. Morgan and I am writing today to see if you are able to offer any assistance or guidance to me regarding my 2015 Hyundai Elantra that has paint peeling off of it. This is a known issue with Hyundai and, after minimal research, I’ve learned there are over 700 complaints of this issue with Hyundai. (resource: https://www.complaintsboard.com/hyundai-getz-paint-c219408).
There have also been multiple class action law suits and registered complaints filed with NHTSA (resource: https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/2017-hyundai-elantra-paint-recalls-to-know-of ) and in all cases the car owner has been ignored.
I first discovered the paint peeling in late April 2022 and called Hyundai Customer Care to see what action they would take. I was told they would offer a One-time Financial Aide in order to pay for repainting the car. I was given a case number (#196265649) and was told to reach out to the closest Hyundai dealership with an estimate from a body shop detailing the cost of the paint repair. The dealership I was directed to is Alexandria Hyundai at 1707 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria.  On May 5th, 2022 I went to the dealership and my paperwork was taken by a service representative named Erik Lorton. He recorded my VIN# and took several pictures of the vehicle, then told me he would give the estimate to his manager (named Gerald) to send to Hyundai. I called every week to follow up, but I never heard back from them. On 7/11/2022 I called Hyundai Customer Care again and was told they had not received any paperwork from Alexandria Hyundai relating to my vehicle, so I called the dealership again and finally got to speak with Erik.  He told me he would follow up with his manager.   Several days later I received an email from Erik asking for my VIN# and pictures of the paint issue again, which I sent immediately, but again, have not heard back. Every two weeks since this date I have called and/or emailed and have been ignored.  At this point, I believe they intend to do nothing.

It was really unclear how this happened. During the course of the spring that year a big gap showed up in the paint that grew and grew until it enveloped a significant portion of the roof panel in front of the sunroof with bare metal exposed. An expensive, multiple day fix.

Significant blotches of paint stripped off the hood of the car in the middle of a rainstorm.

The paint started peeling on the front of the car and now it's peeling on the back plus the top.

It looks like the paint on my car is peeling. My car is all white and it doesn't look good.

In over 45 years of owning vehicles, I have never seen anything like this! The paint just starts to peel off and next thing you know, its huge. This will lead to rust, not to mention it looks awful. I feel robbed as this is a manufacturing defect that needs to be addressed and fixed! I am sure I just lost 1/3 of the value of the car due to this! Went to the Hyundai dealership today and they said "Nothing we can do".
This car is the 2nd Elantra that we have owned. Will be the LAST if they do not fix it. And getting ready to purchase another car for my other daughter. Won't be a Hyundai!
Update from Feb 17, 2024: It is actually a 2016, not a 2015
