I own a 2015 Hyundai Elantra with 109,519 miles. On December 23, 2020 my engine died as I was driving. I had it towed to my mechanic which informed me that my engine was seized and actually told me about the settlement involving Hyundai and Kia engines. He just wasn't sure if my vehicle fell in that settlement or not but I should tow it to the dealership. After having it towed to Koons Hyundai in Woodbridge, VA, I was told that my vehicle would be repaired by the middle of January and that everything was covered, including the cost of the engine and that I would have a loner vehicle while my car was being repaired. This, I came to find out, was not the case.

After getting nowhere with the first dealership and being told by the service manager "I refuse to work on her vehicle - I will pay to have it towed somewhere else", I had it towed to Safford Hyundai in Springfield, VA (the second dealership.) They have told me that they are not sure when my vehicle will be repaired because the engine is on backorder. I MAY get my vehicle back by the beginning of April. But at this point who the hell knows when I will get it back - because they clearly don't.

In addition, I am also being told that there will not be any reimbursement for a rental because my vehicle is outside of warranty. I will have to submit a claim but there is no guarantee that it will be covered. Apparently Hyundai will only cover $30/day for a rental if it's a Hyundai Vehicle (ain't that some sh*t? why would I want to rent the same sh*t that's giving me issues?) and only $20/day for a non Hyundai vehicle. Where can you rent a vehicle for $20? Furthermore, where can you reserve a particular vehicle for rental? Lastly, I was told by the second dealership that the first dealership didn't want to work on my vehicle because the engine will need to be built piece by piece and they didn't want to do that.

It is crazy to me as I read some of these complaints that people have had their engines fail with fewer miles than myself. I am currently looking into litigation for this issue. And I suggest others do the same. This is ridiculous. Aside from the headache, stress, and the drama of dealing with the dealership to fix the issue, its a major safety issue. Luckily I was not involved in an accident. But where does an engine seize at 110,000 miles let alone with fewer miles?

I will NEVER EVER purchase a Hyundai, nor a Kia for that matter, for the rest of my life. Their vehicles have major defects but not only that their customer service is HORRIBLE! The worst I have ever dealt with in my life! If you are considering a Hyundai or Kia for purchase - DON'T DO IT!!!!
