About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
While driving my 2015 Hyundai Elantra it started making a rattling noise from the area around the engine. This noise eventually grew to a loud knocking noise. The knocking noise continued and I began to feel it vibrating in my steering wheel. I took my car to my local Hyundai dealership in grand junction, co to have it looked at. The service technician came out and as soon as I described it he said he knew exactly what the problem was because they have been receiving a lot of complaints about it. After turning the vehicle on and inspecting it he assured me that the connection rods and bearings were going out and that I needed to replace my engine that had 50,000 miles on it. I was also given the option to only replace the lower half of my engine for half the price but that price would possibly even out to an entire engine replacement because the cost of labor would go up. I decided to research this issue further and have found that recalls have been issued for several other vehicles with the same engine and issue but my vehicle has yet to be part of the recall. This has been a major inconvenience for my family and I as I have not used this vehicle since May 2020 and have been told by Hyundai that even though this is a common issue there is nothing that can or will do to help me because it has not been recalled for my vehicle.

Electric problem : when car cools off, sits in hard rain for numerous hours or overnight, there is a problem after restarting. Neither the headlights nor windshield wipers or air blower works until the car is fully warmed up and driven for about half an hour all are ongoing. Suspension problem : a while back there was a recall about a front spring, no details, including 2015 Hyundai Elantra's when the car sits overnight, is started, it will emit a creaking / rattling sound from the front, traveling over a series of bumps, then disappears.

On Sunday, April 15,2018, I was preparing to make a right turn on merrimac avenue in Norfolk va, on my way to church, when I heard a loud screeching noise and loss of steering. A car without an occupant was sitting two car spaces from the corner, my car had struck this car. I got out of my car and saw my front right tire laying flat on the ground and my right fender was smashed. The police and aaa were called. When the aaa driver came he stated that my axle was bent. My air bag did not implod.the police came and no summons was issued. I was given a copy ot the police report that stated that the event was a non-reportable incident >the car was towed to a collision center said that the axle was bent.they ordered another axle and the one sent by the manufacture was damaged!. I feel that this car may be, though repaired may be unsafe( the suspension was damaged also I have a copy of the police report and the copy of the repair wok=rk done which took over 20 days. Am I safe in this car" I do not know how to upload, so I am going to send this report in the mail to you. I had sent a report earlier, but my computer crashed and have not been to use it to send another form, . should I contact Hyundai" I do not know what to do! I am sending this report again because I lost all of my emails

When triple aaa arrived the driver said that my axle was bent. My air back did not implod. The police came and so summons was given, just a repotr that it was a non-reportable accident. My car has been in a collision shop since that day. The shop called and said there would be a delay because the axle the manufacture sent was damaged!! the shop had to order another axle. I went on line to determine if this model has had other report of axle and suspension defects and there was one report that was exactly the same as mine. Is it possible that this model may be a defected ? I did not take any pictures I had lost my cell phone

Issue began 12mo w 2 new cars. Non adjustable rear suspension determined thru md-BBB hearing to be fault of poor handling and excessive tire wear. Determined by BBB to be caused by bent suspension parts. Owner was found not negligent for for parts bending implying that normal driving dynamic forces are causing parts to warp. Due to an inability to diagnose root cause for warped parts - no one wants to assess the issue to that extent - toe/camber settings can as suggested by Hyundai corporate warp at will. Issue is this dynamic condition causing a 'self steering' condition with either toe/camper/both. Hyundai wants owner to pay them to have their design mistake go away and this issue go away - which seems strange in and of itself. If Hyundai takes this vehicle they might conceal it from NHTSA investigation. I have to begin final negotiations with them by Nov 17th. No one wishes to investigate why parts are bending. Does NHTSA want to wait for someone to have a significant accident before being concerned. The BBB of md and Hyundai corporate are definitely not concerned.

The car sways back and forth when driving at highway speeds. Tires and alignment, were checked and everything is good. Can not stay in a straight line for very long. Switched from comfort, sport, normal and no difference. If there is little wind out the car gets even worse and does not stay straight. No one at the dealership can explain and seems they don't care.
