Elantra Unknown 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,000 miles

I purchased this car when it had less than 65,000 miles on it. However, I have incurred significant expenses of $4,000.00 due to having to replace the calipers, fuel pump, and transmission.

I am extremely frustrated with this car and my overall experience. I made the decision to buy it based on a positive previous experience with a Hyundai I owned. However, given the issues I have encountered and the associated costs, I have lost confidence in Hyundai as a brand. As a result, I have no intention of purchasing or recommending Hyundai vehicles in the future.

Elantra Limited 2.6L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,000 miles

Transmission failed while I was about to drive off on my lunch break. I work an hour away from where I live so getting home was a pain. I went through three different diagnostics only to find out the dealership would cover it under extended warranty at Hyundai of Milford - but not without a fight, of course. What's the point of having warranty if you're constantly being told no?

The Sales Manager was adamant in trying to get me to trade in my car for $4k instead of fixing it. Thankfully, we did not give up and got it fixed. The vehicle ran good for another 12k miles before it started feeling funny, which is when the warranty on the transmission was up again.

Elantra SD 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 152,000 miles

I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM A GOOD FRIEND THAT TOLD ME IT HAD A TRANSFERRABLE WARRANTY FOR THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE SHE HAD IT REPLACED A LITTLE WHILE AGO. I THOUGHT THATS GREAT WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT REPAIR IN THE FUTURE AT LEAST.

IN DECEMBER I TURNED TO GO TO MY HOUSE AND IT JUST STOPPED GOING. CALLED MY HUSBAND TO TOW ME HOME. NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO SEE IF IT JUST NEEDED FLUID OR SOMETHING, IT'S ONE OF THE CARS YOU CAN'T CHECK IT WITHOUT THE SPECIAL TOOLS. SHOP CALLS ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER AND SAID MY TRANSMISSION WAS OUT. I REMEMBERED THE WARRANTY, SO I CALLED THE SHOP IT WAS REPLACED AT AND THEY STATED WARRANTY EXPIRED IN OCTOBER WHICH WAS ABOUT 6 WEEKS OUT FROM THE DATE OF COVERAGE.

I TOLD THEM I HAD JUST BOUGHT IT 3 MONTHS AGO THINKING WARRANTY TIME WAS LONGER, BUT THEY HAD THE DOCUMENTATION SHOWING IT WAS UP. SO NOW I'M STUCK WITH A $10,000.00 YARD ORNAMENT BECAUSE WHY WOULD I PAY ANOTHER $6000.00 TO GET ANOTHER TRANSMISSION IF IT'S ONLY GOING TO LAST 13 MONTHS BEFORE GOING OUT AGAIN!

I JUST COULDN'T BELIEVE THEY WOULDN'T COVER IT SINCE IT WAS ONLY A COUPLE OF WEEKS OUTSIDE THE EXPIRATION DATE! SO FRUSTRATED WITH THE WHOLE SITUATION!!
