I can't believe that Hyundai knows that they used crappy paint and hundreds of their cars look horrible because of the paint chipping. I can't even wash it because the paint is coming off so bad. They should be held responsible for this.

paint peeling

The paint on my 2017 Hyundai Elantra started pealing off not even two years in! the dealer said flat out NO, the paint is not covered under extended warranty and we will not even try to deal with it.

The paint problem is clearly a Factory Issue but due to too many KLM they won't cover it. So I have been driving it like that. Since its a cosmetic issue why not help the company with a free publicity :)

Hyundai vehicle's are NOT worth buying since the company wont fix the factory issues.

From day one, I noticed tiny bubbles in the hood paint. The salesman assured me it was nothing. A year later those tiny bubbles grew and popped off the hood down to the metal. Next I noticed that on the roof in the back next to the antenna, the paint or something was turning white on a red car, now its on top of both front and rear windshields and passenger front side door handle is flaking off clear coat.

What is the solution to this problem?

paint peeling

The paint started peeling about a year and a half to two years after I bought it in October 2016. This is the 2017 model and the chipping has only gotten worse and spread to the top of the car above the front window and around the back window. (I will try and add pics of that as well later). I've checked other sites to see if any others with this issue and there have been thousands of unsatisfied customers complaining about this particular color paint chipping issue and most are chipping or behaving all very similarly. In fact, I pass these similar cars almost daily so I know it's not just me. It's a bummer. However, because it's not a safety problem according to Hyundai they are not taking action to recall or fix this problem to my knowledge. Bummer!

I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2017 after a year of having it my paint started chipping I paid to get it fixed because I wasn't sure if there was a warranty fast forward a year later another chip and another and another I finally reached out to Hyundai Corporate who was very ugly about the situation and told me they were doing me a courtesy by fixing the area where the paint chipped and they would only pay 70% and I have to pay the other 20% while that claim was taking action other areas start to chip this was in 2022 fast forward to 2023 the same month one year after and we are back again with same scenario. I really wish I had known about this color of this make and model of this vehicle I wouldn't have never ever ever purchased this color.. sad part is they have been told by many owners of this type and color car but they will not fix the issue we work hard and payed for these cars and it's really sad that they know what's going on but to greedy to fix it.. I'm not sure if I will ever purchase another Hyundai because of how I have been treated regarding this issue. I am Hurt??

paint peeling

So my white paint on the hood of my 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited all of the sudden started to peel away yesterday, for no apparent reason. Apparently this is happening with alot of Hyundai's with white paint. Mine has about 31,000 miles on it. I understand from other posts that Hyundai will not pay for repainting the cars, that the NHTSA will not issue a recall, nor have any class action lawsuits prevailed. So tough luck for owners, we just have to pay for Hyundai's garbage manufacturing job. Absolutely ridiculous.

I have taken this to a dealership. The manager at the body shop is going to research if there are problems existing that would be covered under warranty. It seems that they have had problem prior and Hyundai refuses to fix the problem which I now on my 2017 Elantra. Can't believe I will have to pay for a paint job on a car that is 2 years old. I have had cars that had original paint for 10 years plus and never have I seen this. Shoddy cheap paint.

Called my insurance company and they stated they won't cover due to a manufacturer defect. I call my Hyundai dealership and they stated they did not have any complaints. My car has paint peeling on the cover and now the back and sides and I have personally seen other white Hyundais with the same problem and nothing has been done about it. I am not sure what to do!

There are 100's or people if not 1000's of people online complaining about this issue with the HYUNDAI Paint and there is Nothing being done.

One day my paint is fine, I drove in the rain, parked in my garage - and the next day my paint fell off.

Hyundai Elantra was showing paint peeling on the hood in 2019. Dealership told us chipping is from stones. We repaired it ourselves and paid $500. In the summer of 2021, it started to peel again on the roof of the car. Our mechanic told us there is no paint primer applied originally, and it is defective paint. When I called dealership, they told me to come on Saturday, 10/23. When I came I was told we should bring car in during the week hours (Auto Nation, Hyundai O'Hare. Des Plaines IL.) So we were back to "back and forth" to discourage us from claiming it on Hyundai. Please help us with advise what to do, it is an obvious manufacturer error.

paint peeling

While driving this car in the rain, I noticed the paint started flaking off. I took immaculate care of this car, being a lease. No amount of pampering can fix faulty (Self Healing) paint. I refuse to pay for this, lawsuit or not. More people need to bring this issue to their dealer and file a formal complaint.

I just took my 2017 to the dealer 2 weeks ago. Huge section and also many smaller pieces of paint peeling off. Washed every week. They took photos, submitted them to corporate, 100% covered even though out of warranty based on time and miles.

By the time I took it in to get the repaint, more had fallen off and they had to file a second claim. Defective paint. They spent 2 weeks repainting 50% of the car at 42,000 miles. Just got it back. Will file more claims in the future if need be.

White paint problems. Never will buy a car with white paint again. At least a zero bill. Will buy Hyundai again - can't beat the value, just not in white - many reports of this on the internet.

paint peeling paint peeling paint peeling

Although I'm over my mileage warranty, they, the "Hyundai Dealership" honored the repaint of my hood over a year ago. And it was BAD. Now it's happening again. It started chipping today. Just driving home from work, the wind really made it worse. Took it today to another Hyundai dealership and they denied my request to see if they would do a repaint for the top of my car. It's a manufacturer defect and it shouldn't matter if your warranty is up. It didn't happen under the warranty time. My car is only 3 years old.

Hyundai is aware of the problem and should do a recall on all the defective vehicles involved. The more I drive it the worse is going to get just like my hood did. I won't give up on this. They need to fix their mistakes. I won't be buying another vehicle from Hyundai. I'm definitely pissed off. I want it repainted and Hyundai needs to cover this cost. I'm not sure what else to do to get this taken care of. I hope anyone reading this doesn't ever buy the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Se, quartz pearl white color vehicle. What a huge disappointment. Any advice would be great...

I purchased this car for my daughter in 3-2020, she hasn’t even had the car a year and the paint is coming off... I called Horn Hyundai because I purchased the extended warranty along with their car shield and they tell there is nothing they can do... they are only willing to give me a quote to pay to repaint her car...

BS the paint shouldn’t be falling off like this... I know there is an issue with the pearl white paint and I know this paint has to be defective. I should have purchased her a toyota .....

I decided to drive my car in the rain (egregious I know) and a bunch of paint peeled off of the hood and roof of my Elantra. I pulled into a gas station and noticed some brand new "stripes" coming from the headlights and the windshield on the hood. I was absolutely mortified. It looks hideous. I was able to file with my insurance - they promptly denied me under my comprehensive coverage. The cost of repairs to fix this issues was to complete repaint so $2500 down the drain.
