I purchased this car 2016 with 32,897 miles. It started with the hatch door not opening at 37,000 miles, fixed. The door lock stopped working had to lock the doors individually. At 60,000 mile I did the brake rotors, also did a brake flush as well cost me around $600.00. As required at 60,000 miles.
Now here I am at 67,000 and my car won't take 1st or 2nd gear. I am not able to use my car. Called the dealer, they had no idea if the car had a separate master cylinder or joined with the brake master cylinder. They wanted me to bring it in for evaluation at $120.00 a hour.
got charged $180.00 with nothing done and the tow $80.00 one way, total $420.00. What a waste. Now I'm searching for another place who is going to be honest and have the skill of a mechanic since Hyundai dealer techs have to read and research that car. What schooling do there techs get rather take it else where to have it repaired.
My complaint I never had a issue with any manual car. I'm not abusive with the car, don't ride the clutch, don't use my shifter as a hand rest. The expense that I basically threw away for tow both ways and the 1 1/2 of a waste of time due to low staff. For the dealer to lack information and charge 1 and 1/2 hours of labor not sure how they judge that without any information to what the problem should be when that $260.00 could of been used to make the repair elsewhere. But they say the mechanic should know within the hour which the cost will be added to the repair okay when will that be or is it a 3 hour minimum labor charge since is clutch related. So here we were looking for the 2019 Elantra GT manual as well but after this experience it will be the manual car. I would by from Hyundai since there mechanics have to look at the repair manual to research.
Does anyone have a Elantra GT manual 2012 to 2016 that lost the shifting as well? If so please report and buy a repair manual to check all you can before the dealer charges you for there research on the repair book.
1. Won't take 1st or 2nd gear the master brake/clutch cylinder has fluid topped off as required
2. The dealer cannot tell you if it has it's own master cylinder because the parts book does not show it.
3. The dealer has no idea what to check for first other than research the repair manual.
4. Charging for labor will working on 2 cars at once how did they know how to charge correctly
Last train your mechanics if your low staffed than don't start the clock until the mechanic is dedicated to that car one at a time. Teach them more the basic i mean come on I'm.not a mechanic and checked the fluid at the look for leak make sure the slave master is moving while the clutch pedal is being pushed. Only the 1st and 2nd gear wont work a little loose 3rd 4th 5th 6th are tight as a mechanic that should be a sign is not there first rodeo is not rocket science is not just a mechanic shop is the creator the dealer really what the hell. I wish i had the power to assist in how to be fair to customers rule book on proper charging method. What a waste of time money and most of all trust. If the dealer cant help who the hell can.
So I know fix the car stay away from Hyundai cars and find another make research the dealer and hopefully find one that won't rip you off. So for now I hope if no one would ever experience a problem as I have but if you do make sure their not short staff, make sure they give you some estimated time frame and that the mechanic knows how to work on manual transmission. Now back to the drawing board take my car to another dealer that's not Hyundai dealer. Manual is manual factory built automatic is automatic feel free to contact me if your interested about knowing my story or the result of the repair. hernan.diaz@wowinc.com
