We purchased the car used and for 6 months it was fine. Then we started experiencing this weird problem when accelerating between shifts - the RPM would remain high. In other words, when we engage the clutch the engine is suddenly at 6,000 rpm because the engine load is off.
It has increased in speed after accelerating because it takes between 2-10 seconds for the engine to respond to the release in the gas pedal.
Potentially very dangerous! But it has been very difficult to diagnose since it happens so sporadically.
But I think we have our local mechanic in the know now. I just would like Hyundai to give us a free throttle body. When something like this happens - a dangerous situation - they ought to own up and replace the defective part. If other things don't work on the car, it usually doesn't run, not put you in danger!
