The engine had a ticking noise for about a month. I was driving home from Long Island in NY when the car just died. I tried to start it, nothing. Got it towed home. The dealer said I needed a new engine at 114,000. The dealer said it would cost me $7500 to replace the engine. They would not warranty, it was not their problem the warranty was over. So I will have to put the new engine in myself, I just hope I can do it.

We got the two recall letters in Dec. 2013. Beginning of Jan 2014 I called and made the appointment for fixing up the recall problem. Jan. 14, the day they told me to bring the van I brought the van to Hyundai service at Huntington in NY at 9:00AM. When I made the appointment, they told me it takes for 45 minutes. I was about to wait there while they fixed the van, but they told me leave the van and they will call me. So I came home and waited until almost 4:00 pm.
I was a little anxious because I needed a car to go to work next day. So I called but they didn't even recognize who was responsible to take care of the van. Anyway, I ended up talking with a guy who's name starts N, he told me he would call me later. After waiting over hour he called me and said the van has a lot of problems so the van need to be left there a few days. I told him I needed the car for work next day. He responded if the van is out and has any problem it is not their responsibility. The van I've been driving for a little over 6 years and it wasn't the best but it didn't have any problems when driving, so I wanted to use the van one more day and I wanted to bring to another Hyundai service because I didn't like their work. They should let me know earlier if car is needed more time to fix, so I can rent a car or make some other plans.
I didn't have a transportation so my husband stopped by the Hyundai service center after his work and took the key. He brought the paper he signed, which they let my husband signed to try voiding them from all responsibility. They take more work than they can finish and make customers miserable. I wonder what they did to the van.
Next morning I used the van to drive my child to school which is about 2-3 miles away from my house and after that I was driving the van to work for about 40 minutes on highway, while close to a exit, a red light on the dashboard was on and some loud beeping sound. I got so nervous and terrified. One exit on the highway was close enough that I was able to park the van in a gas station and mechanic shop in 3 minutes. As soon as I parked the van, smoke came out of the front of van. I turned off the engine. The people from mechanic shop opened the front and looked inside they told me engine might need to be replaced.
With Geico's help the van was towed to Hyundai service where we took the van from. At beginning Geico and the Hyundai service center was working together and they told us the van was fixable and we had to pay about $900. But fixing up the van was never finished and Geico and the service guy changed words. They told us they don't know until the engine is opened, and asked us if we wanted them to do it. Based on long relationship with Geico we decided let them open the engine. Least I thought Geico was helping us. ............. Now, We bought the gold warranty when we bought this van, but because the van has run 100,200 miles Hyundai company denied to help. Geico is now no longer involved in this and we're still paying car insurance for the van. The Hyundai service guy told us either pay $1300 and take the van, or leave the van and no need to pay $ 1300.
We had been using many different company cars. They run over 1500000 miles. I never heard engine dieing. I am very disappointed in the Hyundai company. I will keep continue to fight for this. I will find my way to accuse Hyundai and the Hyundai service.
By the way, I have no knowledge on cars so I don't know the engine died because the recall problems. They sent two paper but since I brought them to Hyundai service, a guy took the papers and never gave them back to me, eventhough, I asked them. One was the corrosion problem in cold weather states but I don't know the other one.
Thank you for reading this.

The van has been dying in the middle of the road for a week now. Would have to make a report for every day since then until now and one night we had to have an officer follow us in his vehicle and we died not once, not twice, but three damn times just trying to go 2 miles from the grocery store to home. We thought a battery issue as the battery failed tests at O'Reily's. New battery fixed it only for 2 days. Had the alternator tested a week ago and it was fine. So I'm not sure what's up but Hyundai is full of a bunch of dumb asses who don't know jack squat! If it has the same engine as the Santa Fe well then they both should have the same recalls!
