Entourage

  • 154,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. The contact stated while driving 5 MPH in a parking lot and making a left turn, he heard an abnormal noise coming from the front passenger-€™s side tire and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park the vehicle safely. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the insurance facility and then towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the front passenger-€™s side control arm, the front driver-€™s side control arm, and the constant velocity axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V556000 (Suspension) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.

While driving to work yesterday morning, I was turning off a side road onto a main road. As soon as I turned on to the main road the van sounded like maybe it had a flat, it did not. Both ESC lights came on and stayed on. The steering and braking was erratic and there was no pick up. I could not get the wheels to turn the same direction as the steering wheel for a short period of time moving into on coming traffic. Luckily I was able to get short period of control, enough to barley turn into a parking lot. I am so fortunate this didn't happen on the highway at 55mph or could have been horrific. I did call Hyundai and there are several recalls for the van including the front control arms. I asked if they can tow to the nearest dealer considering I just avoided an accident and had no control. Hyundai will not tow to the dealer. They did offer to reimburse me if I tow it, but that does not help me currently. This is a very serious situation and needs to be rectified by Hyundai before a driver is not able to avoid an accident due to having no pick up or control of the steering.

While driving approx. 30 mph (moving straight; not turning) a noise was heard, the front of the vehicle seemed to drop, and both steering and brakes became erratic. The van, still acting up, made it to a parking lot, where a visual inspection of the front driver's side wheel well indicated what I believe to be a broken control arm (see photo). This is a known issue with this vehicle, and late in 2013 there was a recall (# 13V556000). Vehicle owners were advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for and inspection and either rustproofing or replacement of the control arms. On 1/20/14, the vehicle underwent this process and reported "inspected, waxed, and undercoated as per campaign" (see excerpt from invoice). No damage to the control arms was reported by the dealer's service shop. Had I been informed of a damaged part during the "inspection", I would have chosen to replace it, as this is apparently vital to keeping control of the vehicle. Over the past several weeks, I have done a lot of highway driving. Had this happened at 65 or 70 mph, rather than at the 30 mph in the city, the outcome could have been disastrous. A police officer showed up to help and took down my name - I do not know if a formal report will be filed..

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. The contact stated that the sub-frame was rusted. In addition, the rack and pinion shifted which caused the power steering to leak. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the sub frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 132,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. While driving 55 mph and getting off an exit ramp, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, pulled to the left and became out of control. The vehicle crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. The driver and passenger were injured and transported to the hospital. A police report was filed. The manufacturer stated that they would send someone to inspect the vehicle. Prior to the failure, the vehicle had not been repaired on the front suspension and steering mechanism; when the contact went to pick the vehicle up, he was told that the tie rod, ball joints and control arm were also replaced. Other parts needed to be repaired but were on backordered. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

My 2007 Entourage limited has several quality deficiency issues and recurring maintenance issues. The rear sliding doors (both) have been worked on several times, yet they continue to malfunction, I.e come undone/re-open, not fully latch, and consistently beep as a notice of failure. This is where my babies sit, both of them. The dvd screen has been replaced because it quit functioning properly. The van shimmies or rattles at speed around 70 mph. It causes the center console to shake vigorously. The wheels were balanced on a special wheel balancer but this only reduced the problem. The tire pressure monitoring system has had malfunctions multiple times. There is a whine from the steering column when the wheel is turned, the alternator is creating a whine over the stereo system intermittently(really annoying), the side mirrors have both had problems with the reverse/angle function where the mirrors' motor fails to return the mirror to its user preset setting when transmission is placed out of reverse(drivers side) or fails to tilt the specified degree in reverse(passenger side). The roof leaked when the van was completely shut and had to be resealed by a specialist to correct an existing deficiency, the seal around the glass for the sunroof is degrading and cracking. The sliding rear door on the drivers side has a crimped window channel seal. This shop also stated that they "had not seen one of these [Entourage] vans with so many problems". the door handles and rear high mount stop light had to be replaced due to the packing/shipping poly wrap ruining the chrome and plastic lens. The gasket for the high mount stop light had to be replaced later due to workmanship or material quality. The windshield cracked/failed (1/2" chunk of the windshield) when my wife adjusted the rear view mirror. The idler pulley has been replaced because the bearing failed. Stripping around the sliding doors are fading already and yellowing. More not enough space.

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. The contact stated that the sliding doors on her vehicle would not remain closed. On one occasion, the driver's door opened while driving at an unknown speed. She pushed various buttons on the door in an attempt to keep it closed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and they replaced the latching mechanisms and sliding door lock modules; however, the failure continued to persist. The manufacturer stated that they would bring in a mechanic from California who would determine the cause of the failure and they would not return the vehicle until it was repaired. The VIN was unknown. The current mileage was 23,017 and failure mileage was approximately 100. Update 10/01/08 the power sliding door, did not open or close. The steering wheel vibrated at highway speed. Updated 10/02/08.

Purchased this new Hyundai Entourage on 6/12/ 07 and reported to the dealership on 6/14/07 that this new vehicle has a serious front end vibration and pulls to the left. This vehicle has now been at the dealers service department on 12 occasions for 33 days and the vibration has not been corrected. We consider this vehicle unsafe to drive at highway speeds. The steering is very sensitive and you have to over steer the vehicle to prevent it from drifting to the left. My wife almost lost control of this vehicle when she relaxed her grip on the steering wheel when negotiating a long bend in the road. The car veered sharply to the left. If another car had been in the other lane a very serious accident would have occurred. My wife will no longer drive this vehicle on the highway. The dealership has replaced and balanced four new tires, skimmed the brake rotors and verified that the vibration and pulling to the left has not been corrected. Internet web sites complaint pages for the Hyundai Entourage revealed at least 100 complaints for this vibration problem and Hyundai has not resolved the problem.
