About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Just purchased this vehicle yesterday. Took it for a test drive two days earlier and noticed very strong interior odor, such a carpet cleaner or disinfectant, which we assumed was from dealership trying to clean, but other cars we test drove did not have this smell. Both my us and and I came home that afternoon with a strong headache that lasted all night. We assumed it was from stress and car shopping's. we still decided to purchase the car, assuming it was still just a disinfectant and would go away. Brought home, opened all doors and windows and back hatch to air out. Sprayed with natural air freshener all over carpets and floors. After one night of sitting closed inside the garage, opened up the doors to find the smell is getting stronger and more intense. Opened the windows to let air out and sprayed carpets again. Today, an article was released that thousands of other Hyundai Palisade owners are complaining of the same issue, and is tied to the higher end models and nappa leather seat, which we have. We now have learned that Hyundai has been made aware of this issue and are not responding. We are sad to find out that our 1 day old car (to us) has such a widespread problem that we were not aware of and cannot stand. We are concerned about the materials and products used to build this high end vehicle and it's affects on our health. I am very sensitive to smell amd have complained of this awful scent since we first sat in the car. Now that we know this may not be something that will just air out and may be an inherent problem directly from Hyundai, we want action. This may be the real reason why the previous owner turned it in. It is awful and I don't feel comfortable sitting myself or my family in our newly purchased vehicle. We feel Hyundai should replace or repair this problem with a recall!

The middle row bucket seatbelts are installed too low into the recess of the seat making bucking extremely hard, and at times, preventing the seatbelt from clicking into place at all.

Noxious smell inside vehicle of garlic or off-gassing of chemicals. The smell is overwhelming and makes it impossible to use the Palisade until you have aired it out completely. Many complaints on this topic on message boards and no resolution for over 6 months. Hyundai won't permit us to return the vehicle and this smell could be connected to poisonous chemicals used in the production of the leather seating. An investigation must be completed as it presents a health and safety hazard.

Wind noise from all windows at speeds above 30mph. Noticed the wind noise on pickup of new car from dealership. Sent in for 2 'fixes' but problem persists. 'walk-in' seat function in 2nd row works but no longer slides forward. All wheel hubs have excessive rust. Mileage when first noticed the rust was about 4000 miles. Rust leaks through the wheel caps

I purchased a new 2020 Hyundai Palisade sel from quirk Hyundai in bangor Maine on 3/06/2020, upon getting it home and using it with my children, we discovered that the walk through shoulder button, if pressed, will still cause the seat to fold and slide forward even with a passenger, and if the vehicle is in motion this function is still enabled. I had my 8 year old triplets in the vehicle on 3/07/2020, and we were driving in town to the local restaurant. Children, being inquisitive, were inspecting every feature of the vehicle within their reach. One pressed the button and we heard the electronic release, unsure of what the sound was at the time, I did an inspection later and realized it was the walk through latch. I then ran a few circumstantial experiments with my adult son to test my concern that this feature might cause harm if activated at the wrong time. My concerns were confirmed with this test. My adult son in the seat, pressed the button while I was driving 5 miles per hour, and then I applied the brakes. In once instance, his seat went full forward and he was forcefully projected into the seat in front of him. I was able to document this and have forwarded the video to Hyundai usa, it is available for viewing on youtube only through the link at https://youtu.be/A4-msqzb-74.
