Leaving Island Beach State Park in Seaside Park, New Jersey on May 25, 2014 on Route 35 North (Central Ave) at approximately 25 miles per hour, passenger side front tire blew out. Moved my Santa Fe off the road onto the shoulder. Raised the vehicle with the jack, removed the tire, and found that the coil over spring on the strut had broken/fractured into 3 pieces. Fortunately I was not driving at highway speeds when this occurred or my passenger and myself would not be here to file this complaint.
I have NEVER in my 45 years heard of a coil spring breaking except for on the Hyundai Santa Fe. After reading the multiple complaints about broken coil springs on these vehicles, it's time for Hyundai Motors to step up and recall these springs before someone gets killed as a direct result of a spring breaking at normal driving speeds. I also think that Hyundai Motors needs to reimburse me the $400.00 towing bill to get my vehicle home due to their defective parts.
