Mechanic tells me that the design of where the gaskets are is really complex and takes 9 hours to remove several other components just to access the problem. With a shop rate of over $110 an hour, I am NOT spending over $1000 on an oil leak.

7 year old Santa Fe and this is the 3rd alternator replaced because of leaky gasket above it. New alternator with car, replaced under extended warranty in 2011, and again now in 2015. My mechanic did this repair on a 2007 Vercruz and it has the same engine /alternator configuration. This vehicle was later covered under a recall for this problem. 3 alternators and gasket replaced in 7 years and no recall!

As my friend was adding steering wheel fluid to my car; he noticed a leak. Well, lovely, oil leaking from the valve cover gasket. I rushed to an auto shop, the damage was well over $200. I could of done some shopping around however I needed it done asap for peace of mind. The car was still leaking a tad of oil and dirty water for a few days even a tad smokey from the engine and you can smell it on the engine. I followed up with the auto shop and they cleaned the engine, the issue was fixed.
