Santa Fe Limited 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I purchased this vehicle 5 years ago. I began to have issues a couple years ago with the engine. When I would start the engine it would make this awful clanging sound. I took the car to a local shop and was told that the timing chain was worn and would need to be replaced. I spent about $1,800 - $2,000 to have this done. For one solid week after spending a lot of money on it everything ran well and there were no strange noises.

From that point forward everything has gone downhill further and further. Last week I was out driving and the engine began running really rough. When I pulled over the check engine light began to flash I found out that 3 of my spark plugs that were only 2 years old were fouled and one of them had oil all over it. So now my options are to replace the engine or replace the vehicle. I believe that the 3.3L engine is one of the worse engine ever created and it should have been recalled a long time ago.

If anybody else has had this happen and has suggestions please feel free to let me know what solution you came up with.

While Driving down the road, our Hyundai will just completely stall. You loose everything, power steering, power brakes, everything. Only way to get it back is come to a full stop, place in park and restart the vehicle. This has happened 3 other times over the time we have had the vehicle over 6 years. It is very scary that it can happen at any point and any condition, especially when my wife and kids are going up to the mountains or down Atlanta Interstate. Hyundai needs to recall, this is major!

Santa Fe SE 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 143,000 miles

As my car begins to slow down or I'm at a stop light, the car will suddenly without warning turn off putting me at risk with other drivers. There is no indication of when it's going to happen, it's random and very scary. I've had issues in the past with the car not turning on and they've never found the problem with that either! I've replaced the alternator twice in the past year, because the car died on me while on the fwy!! After doing some research I found that Hyundai is reimbursing customers for expenses related to the alternator and valve cover so I submitted a request for reimbursement, see how long they take. All in all, I'm very upset that I spent so much money on a vehicle that has had issues since the beginning and only seem to get worse!

Have had my Santa Fe stall on my numerous times, without warning! No lights no sound, no warning! Check engine light may or may not come on. Throttle body was changed and situation occurred 5 minutes out of the dealership parking lot! Can stall at any speed, any situation....very unpredictable! Has now been in dealership for one month with no fix...I contacted law firm handling California case but have not rec'd call back from them...the Ministry of Transportation has been investigating this situation before I called them...will soon be time for the media to step in to alert consumers! THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION! I have almost had 3 accidents, the last one making vehicles behind me go up on the curb and almost hit people waiting at the bus stop! HYUNDAI MUST DEAL WITH THIS ASAP OR PEOPLE WILL DIE!!!

I AM 81 AND MY WIFE IS 76. WE ARE RETIRED POSTAL WORKERS. WE SPEND THE WINTER IN NEVADA AND THE SUMMER IN MAINE. WE USUALLY FLY BUT THIS YEAR WE DECIDED TO DRIVE ACROSS. WE HAD DONE IT 8 TIMES BEFORE..

WE TRADED OUR 2001 CHRYSLER T&C FOR A 2008 HYUNDAI SANTA FE.. UPON LEAVING THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE THE CAR STALLED. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED AAA. A PA TURNPIKE SAFETY TRUCK PARKED BEHIND US WITH HIS FLASHERS GOING SO WE WOULD NOT GET HIT BE A PASSING TRUCK. WE WERE BOTH VERY SCARED.

A WRECKER PICKED UP OUR CAR AND TOOK IT TO A GARAGE. WE SPENT THE NIGHT IN CARLYSE PA. NEXT MORNING THE GARAGE CALLED AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. WE PROCEEDED ON OUR TRIP. I WAS DRIVING AND WHEN I SLOWED UP FOR TRAFFIC AHEAD OF ME, IT STALLED AGAIN. IT STALLS WHEN EVER YOU START TO SLOW DOWN. I COULDN'T TAKE MY GRANDCHILDREN IN IT THIS SUMMER BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

Santa Fe 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 105,633 miles

When I was going through a intersection,as I started to drive out into the middle of the intersection there was a bus coming down a hill about 500 metres away,no probs I thought heaps of time to get across (turbo Diesel), then no power in the middle of the intersection.

I had the throttle flat to the floor Tacho reading 500rpm only and no or very little power, crap bus only just missed the back of the car and heart started to beat normal again.

Now when it starts occasionally it feels like it is only running on 1 cylinder and runs like a tractor

Yes it has 170000 km on it and we are the original owners, all services have been done on time and is in great condition body wise for the km's

Dealers answer is there are no codes on the computer so problem must be in our head!!!!!

I assume that they will find the problem when the 5 year warranty is up in 6 mths, and I will have to pay for it myself???????????
